ETP sludge generated from different industries is becoming a growing environmental challenge in Bangladesh. Illegal dumping of ETP sludge contaminates soil, groundwater, rivers, and agricultural land, creating long-term risks for both human health and ecosystems. At the same time, burning ETP sludge in brick fields releases hazardous emissions, toxic pollutants, and excessive greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, further impacting air quality and climate.
Sustainable management of ETP sludge is no longer an option — it is a necessity.
Co-processing of ETP sludge in cement kilns offers a scientifically proven and environmentally responsible solution. Through co-processing, waste is safely utilized as an alternative resource under controlled high-temperature conditions, ensuring complete destruction of harmful organic compounds without generating secondary waste.
Compared to burning ETP sludge in brick fields, co-processing in cement kilns can:
- Reduce approximately 480 kg of carbon dioxide emissions
- Divert nearly 325 kg of ash from landfills
- Minimize environmental pollution and public health risks
- Support Bangladesh’s transition toward a circular economy and sustainable industrialization
