Children Dying from Measles — Who Is Responsible? We Demand Accountability
Measles is a preventable disease. Yet if children are losing their lives to measles, some important questions must be answered.
1. What is the responsibility of the Directorate General of Health Services?
Ensuring routine vaccination for children, maintaining an adequate supply of vaccines, and conducting rapid vaccination campaigns in high-risk areas are important responsibilities of the health authorities.
2. What is the government’s responsibility?
The government must ensure sufficient vaccines, trained healthcare workers, proper funding, and effective monitoring of the vaccination program.
3. Why did some children miss their vaccines?
Was there a shortage of vaccines? Did vaccines fail to reach remote areas? Was there a lack of awareness among parents? Or were there weaknesses in the implementation of the vaccination program? These questions must be answered through an independent and impartial investigation.
4. Where is the accountability?
If negligence or failure of duty is established, appropriate legal action must be taken against those responsible.
Most importantly, the deaths of children must not become merely another news headline. Every child’s death should be investigated, unvaccinated children should be identified, and immediate steps should be taken to ensure that they receive the necessary vaccines.
We demand justice and accountability—but based on facts, evidence, impartial investigation, and the rule of law.
Not a single child should lose their life because of negligence, mismanagement, or failure of the system.
Protecting our children’s lives must be everyone’s highest priority.
