Type 1 & Type 2 Different

The main difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) is where they are installed and what they protect against:
Type 1 SPD
Protects against direct lightning strikes and external surges. It's installed on the line side of the service entrance, and is recommended for industrial and service-sector buildings.
Type 2 SPD
Protects against internal surges and indirect lightning strikes. It's installed on the load side of the service entrance or distribution panels, and is the primary protection system for low voltage electrical installations.
Here are some other differences between Type 1 and Type 2 SPDs:
Current wave
Type 1 SPDs have a 10/350 µs current wave, while Type 2 SPDs have an 8/20 µs current wave.
Installation
Type 1 SPDs are permanently connected, while Type 2 SPDs are also permanently connected.
Protection
Type 1 SPDs protect the electrical system's insulation levels, while Type 2 SPDs protect sensitive electronics and microprocessor-based loads.
