PPRC organized the Pre-Budget Policy Dialogue titled “Revenue Mobilization: Challenges and Opportunities” on 16 May 2026 at the National Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, where distinguished economists, policymakers, tax experts, and industry leaders discussed evidence-based tax reform, revenue transparency, digital modernization, and sustainable fiscal strategies for Bangladesh’s future growth.

On 16 May 2026, Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) organized a high-level pre-budget policy dialogue titled “Revenue Mobilization: Challenges and Opportunities” at the National Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka.

The event brought together policymakers, economists, private-sector leaders, development partners, researchers, and tax experts to address Bangladesh’s persistent low tax-GDP ratio and identify practical pathways for sustainable revenue reform ahead of the 2026 national budget.

Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Adviser to the Honorable Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, attended as the Chief Guest, while Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), joined as the Special Guest. The session was chaired by Hossain Zillur Rahman, Executive Chairman of PPRC.

Distinguished discussants included Zaidi Sattar, Chairman of Policy Research Institute (PRI), Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow of CPD, Syed Nasim Manzur, Managing Director of Apex Footwear; Gayle Martin, Operations Manager at the World Bank Bangladesh Office; Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, Additional Commissioner of Taxes at NBR; Professor Shafiun N. Shimul, Director of the Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka; Mamun Rashid, Chairman, Finance Excellence Ltd; Simeen Rahman, Chairman of Transcom Group; Dr. AKM Nuruzzaman, Senior General Manager of PKSF; Nurul Amin, Former Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh; Fazlul Haque, Former President of BKMEA; Abdul Huq, Director of FBCCI;

The dialogue emphasized that transparency, digitization, institutional accountability, and evidence-based tax reforms are essential to strengthening Bangladesh’s economic resilience and ensuring long-term sustainable development.
