Did you know?
May 3-9 is Mental Health Week, and while this annual event may seem relatively new in popular consciousness, it stems back to the actions of the original mental health advocate, Clifford W. Beers. Beers. He was a Yale graduate, class of 1897, and an editor of The Yale Record – one of the first North American humor journals.
Clifford W. Beers suffered through many traumatic experiences, and when he turned to mental health facilities for help, he realized how horrific the situation was. He described them as abusive, inhuman, and torturous. After this, Beers vowed to stand up for the rights of people with mental health issues. He fought relentlessly for the rights of people with mental health issues, resulting in the creation of The Mental Health Association. By 1920, rights for people with mental illness were finding their way into law.
We should not forget about the people who originally raised awareness and fought for mental health rights. Especially in the month of May, during mental health week, we should pay respect to people like Clifford W. Beers who revolutionized the mental health space.

Changes in the brain make people more sensitive to danger. Trauma also shows up as physical tension, headaches, and stomach problems. Therapy and relaxation techniques help heal both the mind and body. Understanding how trauma affects the body is crucial for helping survivors feel better.

In life, there's a clear difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Being alone can be quite calming. It's a chance to unwind and enjoy your own company, like finding a peaceful retreat just for yourself. You can reflect on your thoughts, dreams, or simply be without any interruptions. It's like taking a deep breath and feeling truly at peace.
On the other hand, feeling lonely is much harsher. It's when you're surrounded by people, yet you still feel disconnected. You long for someone who understands you or just stands by your side. It's like having an empty space inside that you can't fill, no matter how hard you try.
When you're lonely, you become your own anchor. You have to be your own counselor, figuring things out on your own. It's tough because you feel like no one really understands what you're going through. It's like drifting aimlessly in a crowd, feeling lost and detached.
So, while solitude can be calming, loneliness is a different story altogether. Reach out to friends, whether through phone calls, video chats, or meeting up for coffee. Joining social groups or clubs, like a book club or hiking group, offers opportunities to connect with others who share your interests. Additionally, engaging in online communities or forums can provide a sense of belonging and support. Finding purpose outside of social relationships by dedicating time to enjoyable activities, volunteering in your community, or pursuing personal hobbies can also combat feelings of loneliness. Remember, even without professional help, there are practical ways to cope and find connection

Mental Health Advice For Low Self-Esteem:
1)Stop being a people pleaser:
There are people whose happiness depends on making others happy. They believe that the only way that they can find worth in themselves is by seeking other people’s validation. That is absolutely NOT true.
A person can be happy without needing to please anyone else. Yes, it is commendable that you readily help people, but do not do it to the point where your happiness relies on making them happy. Learn to say “NO” to their requests if you cannot do it or if you don’t want to do it. Your happiness depends on you and you alone.
2)Stop comparing yourself to others:
The achievements of other people should not demotivate you from pursuing your goals. If you work hard enough, you can achieve anything you set your sights on. You may need to give more effort or time to reach a certain goal, but the bottom line is that you WILL reach your goal if you push yourself hard enough.
Remember: Life is not a race. It is a marathon.
As a result, it does not matter when you reach your goal. What matters is that you DO reach your goal.
3)Celebrate your small wins:
Even small wins count. Don’t forget to celebrate them, because even those have improved you as an individual. Did you get a good score on your English test? Did you finish a certain task that you were working on? Did you learn a new skill? All of these may not seem like too much, but keep in mind: little drops of water make the mighty ocean. As such, you should always remember to pat yourself on the back when you achieve small (but meaningful) goals.

Productivity can take many forms, from keeping a regular sleep schedule to practicing mindfulness through meditation and journaling. It's also about prioritizing self-care, like eating nutritious meals and staying active, and giving oneself time to rest on weekends.
However, many students feel pressured to compete with peers in unhealthy ways, feeling proud getting the least sleep or going for the most demanding schedule. This drive to constantly 'grind' can lead to neglecting their health and well-being.
It's important to distinguish between necessary productivity, such as working extra hours for financial reasons, and toxic productivity, which stems from an unhealthy obsession with being constantly busy. Social media exacerbates this by fostering feelings of inadequacy and the need to constantly outperform others.
Moreover, some of the greatest achievements in science, culture, and the arts come from moments of creativity and original thinking, which are stifled by a relentless focus on productivity.
To combat toxic productivity, students can prioritize self-care and reflection. Taking breaks to address feelings of overwhelm or to nurture creativity is just as important as completing tasks.
Redefining productivity by valuing activities that contribute to mental well-being, not just tangible achievements, has helped individuals break free from toxic productivity and unrealistic standards set by influencers in the study culture.
