The Bangladesh Students' Union strongly condemns the recent suspension of four professors in South Asian University, New Delhi for allegedly provoking students in the stipend-hike movement. The professors were merely advocating for the rights of the students and had written to the administration for a resolution to revoke the suspension of the students who were involved in the movement.
It is unfortunate to see that the administration has accused these professors of supporting a student-run Marxist study circle named "Aijaz Ahmad Memorial Study Circle". This is clearly an act of suppressing the freedom of speech and expression. The suspension of the professors is an attempt to silence the voices of those who are fighting against the injustices faced by the students.
The Bangladesh Students' Union demands that the administration immediately revokes the suspension of the professors and ensures that such incidents do not occur in the future. We stand in solidarity with the professors and the students in their fight for justice and their right to freedom of expression.
It is shocking to see that the administration has violated the fundamental human right of freedom of expression which is guaranteed by the Constitution of India. This suspension sends a message that dissent and criticism will not be tolerated, which is not acceptable in a democratic society.
As a student-led organization, the Bangladesh Students' Union believes that it is our responsibility to speak out against such injustices and defend the rights of our educators and peers. We stand with the professors and students of South Asian University in their fight for justice and their right to freedom of expression.
We call on the South Asian University administration to engage in constructive dialogue with the professors and students to address their concerns and find a peaceful resolution to this issue. We also urge the administration to take steps to protect the academic freedom of the university and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
The suspension of these professors is not only a violation of their right to freedom of expression, but also an attack on the academic freedom of the university. It is essential that universities remain safe spaces for students and faculty to engage in intellectual discourse and debate without fear of reprisal.
The Bangladesh Students' Union stands in solidarity with the professors and students of South Asian University in their fight for justice and their right to freedom of expression. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take further action as needed to support their cause.
In conclusion, we urge the South Asian University administration to uphold the principles of democracy and freedom of speech that are enshrined in the constitution. We hope that the administration will take immediate steps to revoke the suspension of the professors and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
