পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী শামা ইসলাম ওবায়েদ এমপি ২৯ মে ২০২৬ সকালে হযরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে ইরাকে নিহত বাংলাদেশী রেমিট্যান্স যোদ্ধা মোহাম্মদ শ্রাবনের মরদেহ আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে গ্রহণ করেন। ২৯ মে ২০২৬ ভোর ৪:৪৫ মিনিটে মরদেহ বহনকারী তার্কিশ এয়ারলাইন্সের ফ্লাইটটি ঢাকায় অবতরণ করলে সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে গভীর শোক ও সম্মানের সাথে তা গ্রহণ করা হয়।

নিহত মোহাম্মদ শ্রাবন (পাসপোর্ট নং-ইজে ০৮২০৩২৭) মুন্সিগঞ্জ জেলার মুন্সিগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলার অন্তর্গত বকুলতলা গ্রামের বাসিন্দা এবং মোহাম্মদ নলি মিয়ার সন্তান। তিনি ১০ বছর আগে জীবিকার সন্ধানে ইরাকের বাগদাদে পাড়ি জমিয়েছিলেন। সম্প্রতি ইরান-ইসরায়েল-মার্কিন যুদ্ধকালীন সময়ে বাগদাদে নিক্ষিপ্ত একটি মিসাইলের আঘাতে তিনি মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। তার এই অকাল ও মর্মান্তিক মৃত্যুতে পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী গভীর দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেন এবং শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবারের প্রতি সমবেদনা জানান।

বাগদাদস্থ বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধানে সরকারি প্রক্রিয়ায় তার মরদেহ দেশে ফিরিয়ে আনা হয়েছে। গত ২৭ মে ২০২৬ সকাল ১০:২৫ মিনিটে বাগদাদ বিমানবন্দর থেকে তার্কিশ এয়ারলাইন্সের ফ্লাইট নং-TK0843 এর মাধ্যমে মরদেহটি প্রেরণ করা হয়। এরপর তুরস্কে ২৯ ঘণ্টার ট্রানজিট শেষে পুনরায় তার্কিশ এয়ারলাইন্সের ফ্লাইট নং-TK0712 যোগে আজ সকালে ঢাকার শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে এটি এসে পৌঁছায়।

বিমানবন্দরে আনুষ্ঠানিকতা শেষে মরদেহ মৃতের পিতা, স্ত্রী ও কন্যার নিকট হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে। এসময় পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী লাশ পরিবহন ও দাফন-কাফন বাবদ ৩৫ হাজার টাকা, বিশেষ অনুদান ৫০ হাজার টাকাসহ প্রাপ্য অন্যান্য আর্থিক সহায়তা মৃতের স্বজনদের হাতে তুলে দেন।

পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় ও ওয়েজ আর্নার্স কল্যাণ বোর্ডের উর্ধতন কর্মকর্তাগণ বিমানবন্দরে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

২৫ মে ২০২৬ বাগদাদস্থ বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের প্রথম সচিব (শ্রম) পারভেজ আলম চৌধুরী দাপ্তরিক পত্রের মাধ্যমে মোহাম্মদ শ্রাবনের মরদেহ প্রেরণের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেন।

In light of the ongoing regional situation in West Asia, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh today symbolically handed over a goodwill consignment of food supplies to the Government of the State of Kuwait as a gesture of solidarity and friendship from the people of Bangladesh to the brotherly people of Kuwait.
The initiative forms part of a broader support effort under which a total of 240 tons of essential food items from Bangladesh are scheduled to reach Kuwait through multiple flights beginning on 25 May 2026. This contribution is expected to help strengthen Kuwait’s strategic food reserves and support emergency needs amid the prevailing regional circumstances, including the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the resulting pressure on Kuwait’s supply chains.
On this occasion, a ceremony was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, where the consignment was symbolically handed over to His Excellency Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, by Mr. Humaiun Kobir, Special Envoy of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, who is currently visiting Kuwait.
The other members of the three-member high-level delegation from the Government of Bangladesh - State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mr. Rashiduzzaman Millat and the Director General (West Asia) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh - were also present at the ceremony. The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait, Major General Syed Tareq Hussain, OSP, awc, psc, participated in the delegation’s official engagements, bilateral meetings, and the handover ceremony.
During the ceremony, Mr. Kobir also formally conveyed a letter from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Tarique Rahman, addressed to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait. The letter conveyed heartfelt wishes for the peace, security, and well-being of the people of Kuwait and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between the two brotherly nations.
During the discussions, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations, the prevailing regional situation, humanitarian cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the longstanding friendly and brotherly relations between Bangladesh and Kuwait and reiterated their commitment to further expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, manpower, food security, civil aviation, and other promising sectors.
The dispatch of this goodwill food consignment by the Government of Bangladesh to the State of Kuwait reflects the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the two countries and demonstrates Bangladesh’s continued commitment to supporting friendly nations during times of regional uncertainty and challenge.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations based on mutual respect, trust, friendship, and multifaceted cooperation.

কুয়েতের পররাষ্ট্র মন্রী শেখ জাররাহ বাংলাদেশের সরকারের এ উদ্যোগের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন ও বাংলাদেশ-কুয়েতের ভ্রাতৃত্বের এক অনন্য উদাহরণ হিসেবে উল্লেখ করেন। উল্লেখ্য, বাংলাদেশ থেকে মোট ২৪০ টন খাদ্যসামগ্রী উপহার হিসেবে কুয়েতে প্রেরণ করা হচ্ছে, যা পশ্চিম এশিয়ায় চলমান আঞ্চলিক পরিস্থিতির প্রেক্ষাপটে ভ্রাতৃপ্রতিম কুয়েতের জনগণের প্রতি এটি বাংলাদেশের সংহতি, সৌহার্দ্য ও বন্ধুত্বেরই বহিঃপ্রকাশ।

এ বৈঠকে পররাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা জনাব কবির বাংলাদেশ সরকারের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী জনাব তারেক রহমানের পক্ষ থেকে কুয়েতের মহামান্য আমির শেখ মেশাল আল-আহমাদ আল-জাবের আল-সাবাহ বরাবর প্রেরিত একটি পত্রও আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে হস্তান্তর করেন। পত্রে কুয়েতের জনগণের অব্যাহত শান্তি, নিরাপত্তা ও কল্যাণ কামনা করার পাশাপাশি দুই ভ্রাতৃপ্রতিম দেশের মধ্যকার দীর্ঘদিনের বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক আরও জোরদারে বাংলাদেশের অঙ্গীকার পুনর্ব্যক্ত করা হয়।

Bangladesh has been unanimously elected as a member of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Commonwealth Board of Governors for the term 2026-28.

The Commonwealth Executive Committee comprises sixteen members, of which eight are the highest contributing member states and the other eight are elected from the four regions.

Bangladesh has been elected a member of the Executive Committee (EC) from the Asia-Europe region at the Commonwealth Board of Governors meeting held on 20 May 2026 at the Commonwealth Secretariat, London. Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam represented Bangladesh in the Board meeting.

The Executive Committee is mandated to oversee all matters related to finance, personnel and administration of the Commonwealth Secretariat. The committee also makes policy recommendations for the Commonwealth Board of Governors.

The Committee scrutinizes membership of the new and accredited organizations (AOs) of the Commonwealth.

Bangladesh’s unanimous election to the Executive Committee (ExCo) reflects its deep commitment, active contributions, and strong leadership within the Commonwealth. Notably, the Commonwealth was the first international organization that Bangladesh joined following its independence.

In the Sixth Round of Bangladesh – South Africa Foreign Office Consultations, held in Pretoria on 21 May 2026, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam led the Bangladesh delegation while the South African side was led by Ambassador D Malcomson, Acting Deputy Director General of Asia and Middle East, Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa.

The consultations took review of the whole gamout of bilateral relations and discuss key future potential collaborations of mutual interest. The Consultation was concluded by a joint communiqué.

H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the Global Growth Conference 2026 as the keynote speaker at the session titled “Geopolitics of Fragmentation: Power, Escalation & Strategic Reordering,” held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Rabat on 20 May 2026.

During the session, she shared insights on Bangladesh’s position amid the evolving global geopolitical landscape, the shifting balance of power and the strategic implications of growing international fragmentation.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh continues to view peacekeeping not merely as an obligation, but as a profound moral responsibility to humanity,” said H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs at the Second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environment held in Rabat on the morning of 20 May 2026.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism, the State Minister underscored the country’s standing as one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, while paying rich tribute to the 174 Bangladeshi peacekeepers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of global peace. She also highlighted Bangladesh’s expanding and increasingly impactful contribution of women peacekeepers.

The State Minister also drew attention to emerging challenges confronting modern peace operations, including misinformation and digital harassment, as well as the need to ensure the ethical and responsible use of technology in peacekeeping contexts. Calling for strengthened and forward-looking UN peacekeeping reform, State Minister Shama Obaed underscored the need for clear and realistic mandates, adequate resourcing, enhanced consultation with troop- and police-contributing countries and stronger measures to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers. She further put emphasis on robust pre-deployment training through institutions such as the BIPSOT, and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to environmentally sustainable peacekeeping practices.

H. E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs delivered a lecture titled “Bangladesh Foreign Policy: Focus on Africa” at the Moroccan Institute for Training, Research and Diplomatic Studies in Rabat. She highlighted the BNP-led Government’s forward-looking, value-driven and people-centric foreign policy anchored in the principle of “Bangladesh First,” aimed at safeguarding national interests while promoting constructive international engagement. Emphasizing the vast potential for Bangladesh-Africa cooperation, she stressed the importance of advancing shared goals of peace, prosperity, sustainable development and economic empowerment for the peoples of both regions. The session was attended by senior diplomats, retired ambassadors, trainee diplomats, academics and foreign policy experts.

In a landmark moment for South-South commerce, H. E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, formally inaugurated the first-ever Bangladesh-Morocco B2B Meeting Platform in Rabat, opening a new corridor for trade, investment and green innovation linking South Asia with Morocco’s gateway to Africa, Europe and beyond. Highlighting Bangladesh’s strategic position between South and Southeast Asia, the State Minister shed light on the country’s emergence as the world’s second-largest garment exporter, a pharmaceutical supplier to more than 150 countries and a growing hub for ICT, leather, ceramics, light engineering and food processing. She also conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s invitation to Moroccan businesses to consider Bangladesh as a key investment destination. The promotion of Bangladesh’s jute and jute-based products emerged as one of the key priorities of the new platform. An exhibition featuring Bangladeshi jute products was also organized at the Chamber premises, jointly inaugurated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the State Minister and Hassan Sakhi, President of the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce. The B2B event, organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Rabat in collaboration with the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, brought together around 30 leading Moroccan business figures and a seven-member Bangladeshi business delegation.
