Nawab Chottan House is the last residing place of Late Nawab Syed Ali Mohammad also known as Nawab Chottan ( Died 1980 ) the oldest existing residential house of Dhaka built in 1707 AD. The present remain structure is the part of the big palace which is not there anymore, The name of the estate is Mohammadi Begum Waqf Estate. He completed his Matriculation from Armanitola Govt. High School. He has lots of contribution to the development for Old Dhaka culture and people; donated land for schools, graveyard etc. Late Nawab Chottan’s forefathers were the oldest Ruler of Undivided Bengal. However it must be mentioned that they were also the victim of 1857 Sipahi Mutiny, as his Grandfather was against British Raj and supporter of Shodeshi Andolon which caused lots of Martyrdom in his family. Nawab Chottan has made lots of contribution and donated funds when Awami League was founded 1949. Nawab Chottan always believed in right of peoples religious beliefs, during 1944 to 1947 he has voluntarily helped lots of Hindu-Muslim citizen during Hindu Muslim riot and Partition. Raised by his Grand Father (Nana) Syed Amjad Ali Al Hussaini Chowdhury (One of The biggest Zamindar of Sultanabaad and Baakerganj Pargana now Barisal) as he lost his father at young age.
