India in Bangladesh (High Commission of India, Dhaka)

As the people of Bangladesh gather today in memory of one of their nation’s bravest sons - Shaheed President Zia-ur-Rahman, Bir Uttam - we recall his famous radio address of March 1971, which electrified the masses, inspired them on a path of resistance against oppression and led to national liberation.

Today, as then, India stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Bangladesh in a saga of shared sacrifices and a common journey towards progress and prosperity of both our peoples.

আজ বাংলাদেশের জনগণ যখন জাতির অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তান শহীদ রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান, বীর উত্তম-এর স্মরণে সমবেত হয়েছে, তখন আমরা ১৯৭১ সালের মার্চ মাসে তাঁর কণ্ঠে ধ্বনিত সেই বিখ্যাত বেতার ভাষণের কথা স্মরণ করছি, যা জনগণকে উদ্দীপ্ত করেছিল, নিপীড়নের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিরোধের পথে তাঁদের অনুপ্রাণিত করেছিল এবং জাতীয় মুক্তির দিকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে গিয়েছিল।

আজও, তখনকার মতোই, ভারত বাংলাদেশের জনগণের সঙ্গে কাঁধে কাঁধ মিলিয়ে অভিন্ন আত্মত্যাগের এক গৌরবগাথা এবং উভয় দেশের জনগণের অগ্রগতি ও সমৃদ্ধির অভিন্ন যাত্রায় পাশে রয়েছে।

High Commissioner Pranay Verma inaugurated the HCI Library at the Indian Cultural Centre, Gulshan Avenue, Dhaka on 25 May 2026

During the event, High Commissioner paid floral tribute to poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the occasion of his 127th birth anniversary. He noted that the poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam will remain etched in the collective memory of both India and Bangladesh.

High Commissioner expressed hope that the HCI Library would continue to serve as a welcoming space for all who believe in the enduring power of books and ideas.

The HCI Library, one of the oldest libraries in independent Bangladesh, has long served as a window for the dissemination of knowledge and information on Indian art, culture, economy, literature, history, politics, and other fields. The newly opened HCI library houses a rich collection of books in English, Hindi, and Bengali.

The library will remain open to members from Sunday to Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Bharat Bichitra (monthly magazine), published by HCI Dhaka, will also be available to library members.

The event concluded with a cultural performance featuring musical renditions of Nazrul songs by Bangladeshi singer Avijit Kundu.

ভারতীয় হাই কমিশন (এইচসিআই) লাইব্রেরি উদ্বোধন এবং নজরুল জয়ন্তী উদ্‌যাপন

হাই কমিশনার প্রণয় ভার্মা ২৫ মে ২০২৬ -এ ঢাকার গুলশান এভিনিউতে অবস্থিত ভারতীয় সাংস্কৃতিক কেন্দ্রে এইচসিআই লাইব্রেরি উদ্বোধন করেন।

অনুষ্ঠান চলাকালে, কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের ১২৭তম জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষ্যে হাই কমিশনার পুষ্পার্ঘ্য অর্পণ করেন। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের কবিতাগুলো ভারত ও বাংলাদেশ উভয়ের সম্মিলিত স্মৃতিতে চিরস্থায়ী হয়ে থাকবে।

হাই কমিশনার আশা প্রকাশ করেন, এই এইচসিআই লাইব্রেরিটি বই ও ভাবনার চিরন্তন শক্তিতে বিশ্বাসী সকলের জন্য একটি আন্তরিক পরিসর হিসেবে কাজ করা অব্যাহত রাখবে।

স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম প্রাচীন লাইব্রেরিগুলোর মধ্যে একটি, এই এইচসিআই লাইব্রেরি দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ভারতীয় শিল্পকলা, সংস্কৃতি, অর্থনীতি, সাহিত্য, ইতিহাস, রাজনীতি ও অন্যান্য ক্ষেত্র সম্পর্কে জ্ঞান ও তথ্য প্রচার করার একটি জানালা হিসেবে কাজ করে আসছে। সদ্য উদ্বোধনকৃত এইচসিআই লাইব্রেরিতে ইংরেজি, হিন্দি ও বাংলা ভাষায় রচিত বইয়ের এক সমৃদ্ধ সংগ্রহ রয়েছে।

লাইব্রেরিটি রবিবার থেকে বৃহস্পতিবার, সকাল ৯:০০টা থেকে বিকাল ৫:৩০টা পর্যন্ত সদস্যদের জন্য উন্মুক্ত থাকবে। ভারতীয় হাই কমিশন ঢাকা কর্তৃক প্রকাশিত ভারত বিচিত্রা (মাসিক পত্রিকা)-ও লাইব্রেরির সদস্যগণের জন্য উপলব্ধ থাকবে।

এই অনুষ্ঠানটি বাংলাদেশি সঙ্গীতশিল্পী অভিজিৎ কুণ্ডুর নজরুলগীতি পরিবেশনার মাধ্যমে সমাপ্ত হয়।

High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid a farewell call on Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, H.E. Tarique Rahman on 24 May 2026.

Prime Minister thanked High Commissioner for his contributions to bilateral relations and conveyed best wishes for his next assignment.

High Commissioner reaffirmed India’s willingness to deepen multifaceted engagement with Bangladesh for the mutual benefit and shared prosperity of the peoples of both countries.

They also briefly discussed various potential areas of cooperation driven by the development priorities of the two countries.

হাই কমিশনার প্রণয় ভার্মা ২৪ মে ২০২৬-এ বাংলাদেশের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী জনাব তারেক রহমানের সঙ্গে বিদায়ী সাক্ষাৎ করেন।

মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্কে অবদান রাখার জন্য হাই কমিশনারকে ধন্যবাদ জানান এবং তাঁর পরবর্তী দায়িত্বের জন্য শুভকামনা জানান।

হাই কমিশনার উভয় দেশের জনগণের পারস্পরিক কল্যাণ ও যৌথ উন্নয়নের জন্য বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে বহুমুখী সম্পৃক্ততা আরও সুদৃঢ় করার ক্ষেত্রে ভারতের আগ্রহ পুনর্ব্যক্ত করেন।

তাঁরা দুই দেশের উন্নয়ন অগ্রাধিকারসমূহের আলোকে সহযোগিতার বিভিন্ন সম্ভাব্য ক্ষেত্র নিয়েও সংক্ষেপে আলোচনা করেন।

বাংলাদেশ থেকে ১৫ জন অংশগ্রহণকারী সত্যজিৎ রায় ফিল্ম অ্যান্ড টেলিভিশন ইনস্টিটিউটে “জার্নালিজম ফর এ বেটার ওয়ার্ল্ড: রিপোর্টিং ফর এসডিজি-স” শীর্ষক দুই সপ্তাহব্যাপী আইটেক কোর্সটিতে অংশগ্রহণ করছেন। বিদেশ মন্ত্রকের ইন্ডিয়ান টেকনিক্যাল অ্যান্ড ইকোনমিক কো-অপারেশন কর্মসূচির আওতায় আয়োজিত এই প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচিটির লক্ষ্য হলো দায়িত্বশীল সাংবাদিকতা, জ্ঞান বিনিময় এবং গণমাধ্যম ও যোগাযোগ ক্ষেত্রে সহযোগিতার প্রসার ঘটানো।

𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚-𝐍𝐚𝐳𝐫𝐮𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Acting High Commissioner (AHC) Pawankumar Badhe addressed a gathering to mark birth anniversaries of eminent poets Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam on 14 May 2026 at Bangladesh National Museum. The event was organized by Itihash O Oitijjo Parishad in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) Dhaka, Cultural school Tapoban, Nrityanchal and bahumatrik.com.

Speaking at the event, AHC Pawankumar Badhe said that the two extraordinary poets live equally and profoundly in the hearts of the people of both India and Bangladesh. AHC highlighted that the enduring love and reverence shown towards Tagore and Nazrul remain among the strongest symbols of our shared cultural heritage.

A major attraction of the evening was “Nrityagiti,” a dance-music tableau directed by renowned artists Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibli Mohammad of Nrityanchal. The performance presented a creative synthesis of the musical and philosophical legacy of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. During this segment, the artists performed group dances set to 14 popular songs by Rabindranath and Nazrul.

The event featured Cultural Affairs Minister H.E Nitai Roy Chowdhury, MP as the Chief guest. Presided over by Professor Niranjan Adhikari, the discussion session featured presentations by Professor Dr. Tarik Manzur, Dhaka University and Professor Ahmed Reza from Jahangirnagar University.

The event also featured an exhibition of portraits of Rabindranath and Nazrul, drawn by over a hundred students from 13 schools across Dhaka, and its surrounding areas. At the conclusion of the programme, certificates of recognition were presented to the participating young artists.

ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার (এএইচসি) পাওয়ানকুমার বঢ়ে ১৪ মে ২০২৬-এ বিশিষ্ট কবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় জাদুঘরে আয়োজিত একটি অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। এই অনুষ্ঠানটি ইন্দিরা গান্ধী সংস্কৃতি কেন্দ্র (আইজিসিসি) ঢাকা, কালচারাল স্কুল তপোবন, নৃত্যাঞ্চল ও বহুমাত্রিক ডটকমের সহযোগিতায় ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্য পরিষদ কর্তৃক আয়োজন করা হয়।

এই অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য প্রদানকালে, ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার পাওয়ানকুমার বঢ়ে বলেন, এই দুই অসামান্য কবি ভারত ও বাংলাদেশ উভয় দেশের মানুষের হৃদয়ে সমানভাবে ও গভীরভাবে বেঁচে রয়েছেন। ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার তাৎপর্যপূর্ণভাবে উল্লেখ করেন, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ও নজরুলের প্রতি প্রদর্শিত নিরন্তর ভালোবাসা ও শ্রদ্ধা আমাদের অভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক পরম্পরার অন্যতম শক্তিশালী প্রতীক হিসেবে বিদ্যমান রয়েছে।

এই সন্ধ্যার অন্যতম প্রধান আকর্ষণ ছিল নৃত্যাঞ্চলের প্রখ্যাত শিল্পী শামীম আরা নীপা ও শিবলী মোহাম্মদের নির্দেশনায় পরিবেশিত নৃত্য-সঙ্গীতনির্ভর মূকনাট্য (ট্যাবলো) “নৃত্যগীতি”। এই পরিবেশনাটি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের সঙ্গীত ও দর্শনবিষয়ক ঐতিহ্যের এক সৃজনশীল সমন্বয়কে উপস্থাপন করে। এই পর্বটি চলাকালে, শিল্পীগণ রবীন্দ্রনাথ ও নজরুলের ১৪টি জনপ্রিয় গানের সঙ্গে দলীয় নৃত্য পরিবেশন করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানটিতে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সংস্কৃতিবিষয়ক মাননীয় মন্ত্রী জনাব নিতাই রায় চৌধুরী, এমপি। অধ্যাপক নিরঞ্জন অধিকারীর সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠিত আলোচনা পর্বে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক ড. তারিক মনজুর এবং জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক আহমেদ রেজার উপস্থাপনাও অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিলো।

এই অনুষ্ঠানে ঢাকা ও এর পার্শ্ববর্তী এলাকাসমূহের ১৩টি বিদ্যালয়ের শতাধিক শিক্ষার্থীর আঁকা রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের প্রতিকৃতির একটি চিত্রকর্ম প্রদর্শনী আয়োজন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের পরিসমাপ্তিতে, অংশগ্রহণকারী নবীন শিল্পীদেরকে সম্মাননা সনদ প্রদান করা হয়।
