Many students on our campus became highly motivated by our message and ongoing online and offline campaign and wanted to become a part of the campaign. Since we had to be in the driving seat in this competition and could not include them directly, we planned to have them on as our long-time ambassadors for spreading our message because it is very important for us all to continue this campaign which can have a positive social impact in our country.
The students were given t-shirts which made our campus a sea of blue and it brought about an inquisitiveness about our campaign as more and more people were approaching our ambassadors. We did this at the very end of our campaign because we wanted to keep with the rules while ensuring the good deed goes on for a long, long time.
The students had to take an oath which we have shared in this album for all to see. This was the activation in the end that was rejuvenating for all and was most impactful in terms of sheer positive interest in the subject it generated. We are proud to have served as ambassadors ourselves and wish to be the leaders that can help grow more such great friends who will make our society better.

Throughout the campaign, we have been learning a lot about people’s level of knowledge, perception, understanding of and treatment towards people with disabilities. When we started, we had many plans, as we moved forward, we kept fine tuning it for situation demanded it.
While we have kept our online activities going, we also had gone offline and spread lots and lots of informative brochures on disability, in both English and Bengali to people on our campus and on the streets. We kept the information within the brochure very simple for everyone to understand and provided link to our page and website on it. This album contains our brochures.
Our team members Hasibul (the communicator) and Shahabul (the documenter and carrier) recently vamped up their campaign to ensure that this campaign does not end with this competition but goes beyond for the betterment of our society. We share some moments from the campaign here with you.

We conducted a small workshop for school children at Queen’s School and College at their
Zigatola Campus in Dhaka, on Thursday, November 15, 2018.
It was a good workshop where the young children got to learn a lot and took an oath to become
ambassadors of our campaign’s mission – to treat all people with any kind of disability with
dignity and respect and to stand up for them at all times.

For our campaign, we wanted to get all information absolutely correct before we shared it. For that, we were fortunate enough to have Dr. Nafeesur Rahman to consult for us so we could present factual data and information with the world.
In this video, Dr. Rahman shares a lot of details about disability in Bangladesh, including the definition. classification, what the situation currently is and what is being done about it, how hate-speech affects people with disabilities, and about understanding and empathy towards those with disabilities.
Dr. Rahman is Disability & Development specialist who has been working in the field for close to 3 decades both in Bangladesh and internationally. Dr. Rahman is an Eisenhower Fellow and the former Director of National Forum of Organizations Working with the Disabled (NFOWD), where he served in the role from 2002-2016. Over the many years, he has worked for various highly esteemed organizations such as ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB), Center for Disability and Development Center (CDD), GIZ, Oxfam, National Institute of Opthalmalogy, the Specialized Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd. and for the Government of Myanmar.

Past, Present and Future with Professor Imran Rahman
Professor Imran Rahman was kind enough to share his thoughts on how society has treated people with any form of disability, how understanding, empathy and respect are key to a good society and that is important to stop hate-speech against anyone with any disability. He also hopes the future generation can change the world and make everyone see how those with a permanent physical or mental handicap are not disabled but differently able.

A Critical Reflection on the Word ‘Disability’ with Professor Salimullah Khan
Professor Salimullah Khan was kind enough to share with us some wise words about the term “disability” and what should be the actual guiding principles of communication between human beings that would help in treating those with any form of disability with the same respect everyone deserves. Professor Salimullah Khan is a Bangladeshi writer, thinker, critic, and public intellectual. He is regarded as an eminent thinker of Bangladesh. It was an honor for us to have him deconstruct the word to offer an insight on how vernacular has a role in creating perceptions.

Recently, a few members of our team visited the Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Team to talk with their members and find out about the challenges they face in their lives, how they overcome them and their journey into the world of Wheelchair Cricket in Bangladesh.
It was a day spent well with some amazing and truly inspiring people who help spread the same message as ours, of peace and tolerance towards those who are in some way handicapped by a disability.
We are very grateful to the Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Team for sharing their words with us so that we can share it with the world to create a society that is tolerant, understanding, empathetic, and stands up against any form of hate-speech against those with any disability and give them the equal rights and opportunity that we all deserve.
