We remember the Battle of Badr as one of the greatest moments in our history. It took place on 17 Ramadan, 2 AH (13 March 624 CE) near Badr. Under the leadership of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, a small group of believers set out intending to intercept a Quraysh trade caravan led by Abu Sufyan ibn Harb. However, the situation turned into a battle when the Quraysh army, led by Amr ibn Hisham, marched to confront us.
Even though the Muslims were far fewer in number and had limited weapons, we placed our trust in Allah and stood firm behind the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The battle began with duels and then a full clash between the two sides. By the help of Allah, the Muslims were victorious, and several leading enemies of Islam, including Umayyah ibn Khalaf, were defeated.
For us, Badr is remembered as Yawm al-Furqan (the Day of Criterion)—the day when Allah made the truth stand clear over falsehood. This victory strengthened the Muslim community and showed us that sincere faith and reliance on Allah can overcome even the greatest challenges.
