পৃথিবীর বৃহত্তম মহাসড়কগুলোর একটি ''সড়ক এ আজম'' বা ''গ্র্যান্ড ট্রাঙ্ক রোড'' শেরশাহ নির্মাণ করেন।এটি Chittagong থেকে শুরু হয়ে পাকিস্তানের লাহোরে শেষ হয়।এই মহাসড়কটি আমাদের #মানিকগঞ্জ অতিক্রম করে।মানিকগঞ্জ-সিংগাইর সড়ক ও মানিকগঞ্জ-ঝিটকা সড়কের গিলন্ড এলাকাই গ্র্যান্ড ট্রাঙ্ক রোডের অংশবিশেষ।এর ধ্বংসাবশেষ কয়েক বছর আগেও দেখতে পাওয়া যেত।সড়ক সংস্কারের কারণে এই নিদর্শন মুছে গেছে।গ্র্যান্ড ট্রাঙ্ক রোডের গিলন্ড এলাকার দৃশ্য-----

The Grand Trunk Road is one of Asia's oldest and longest major roads. For more than two millennia, it has linked the eastern and western regions of the Indian subcontinent, running from Chittagong, Bangladesh through to Howrah, West Bengal in India, across north India into Peshawar (in present day Pakistan), up to Kabul, Afghanistan. Its former names include UttaraPatha ("Northern Road"), Shah Rah-e-Azam ("Great Road") or Sadak-e-Azam or Badshahi Sadak.
The road connected South Asia with Central Asia.
The route spanning the Grand Trunk (GT) road existed during the Maurya Empire, extending from the mouth of the Ganges to the north-western frontier of the Empire.[1] The predecessor of the modern road was rebuilt by Sher Shah Suri, who renovated and extended the ancient Mauryan route in the 16th century.[2] The road was considerably upgraded in the British period between 1833 and 1860
