The current contribution of livestock sub-sector to overall GDP is about 2.73% which is 17.15% of agricultural GDP. The export earnings from leather and leather goods is 4.31% of the total export, 20% of the population is directly and 50% is partly dependent on this sector. Every day transact million of dollars in this sector, but either not any special allocation or emphasis has not yet been seen by the government even no thanks received by others. Bangladesh Livestock Society was formed by the stakeholders of livestock sector. It was established at 2012 in a meeting was held in Narikelbaria campus of University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. This meeting was attended members of Department of livestock Services (DLS), Universities, privates dairy-poultry farmers, livestock entrepreneurs, NGOs, medicine companies, livestock suppliers and consumers. Several meeting they were formed the Bangladesh Livestock Society. The slogan of the society is ‘An organization for the livestock development, focusing, broadcasting and advertisement’ and aim is ‘to generate/ form/ build a link/ association between the service provider (livestock entrepreneur, Veterinarian/ livestock personnel, and farmers) and the service receiver (Farmer, consumer)’. In its shot life had successes stories that were in below:-
1. Bangladesh Livestock society celebrates livestock related national and international days.
2. Delegate send to various national and International seminar, conference and program for exchanging ideas and information through communications and congregations;
3. Its advise and help the members in their problems and to provide financial, social and moral assistance among the members;
4. Always monitor and help promote the standard of education and research in livestock sector with special attention to the livestock crisis moment public influences and arrange a programs and quality of publications;
5. By helping foster a global perspective in research activities about climatic changes and prepare farmer for challenging this crisis;
6. collaborate works and exchange knowledge with the institutions/organizations, home and abroad;
7. Arranged workshops for refreshing/updating knowledge and information for the Livestock farmer and awarded ideal person and institution about livestock sector,
8. It provide assistance for short-term training of the young researchers abroad;
9. They provide accommodation to the Alumni when they visit Rajshahi and to arrange seminar talks to be delivered or workshops to be conducted by them;
10. Honor the members for their outstanding contribution;
11. Publish regularly the activities of BLS and communicate the members, home and abroad, in the form of a newsletter, magazine and in website,
12. Coordinate/integrate different advisory and award selection Committees of (Institution/Locality);
13. Orient the executive committee for effective representation in different bodies
14. Now it published yearly based an International research Journal namely ‘Bangladesh Livestock Journal (BLJ)’
