International Youth Day 2026 Celebrated in Sherpur: Call for Youth Action Against Lead Pollution and Climate Impacts
A seminar titled "Harmful Effects of Lead Pollution on Climate in Sherpur District and the Role of Youth" was held today at 4:00 PM at the Manarat Cadet Institute Hallroom in Sreebardi. The event was jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA) and Voice of Poor People, with Sherpur Youth Network and Sherpur Women's Network serving as co-organizers.
The seminar was chaired by Rahima Akter Rikta, Member Secretary of Sherpur Women's Network (Sreebardi Upazila), and moderated by Sohel Islam, Convener of Sherpur Youth Network (Sreebardi Upazila).

DHORA Joint Convener Reza Farhad and Voice of Poor People Executive Director Ziaur Rahman Munna emphasized the critical need for youth leadership in countering climate vulnerabilities. The panel collectively urged young leaders to drive community awareness, monitor unsafe battery recycling practices, and champion sustainable environmental policies.

আজ বিকাল ৪:০০ ঘটিকায় শ্রীবরদী উপজেলার মানারাত ক্যাডেট প্রতিষ্ঠানের হলরুমে 'ধরিত্রী রক্ষায় আমরা' (ধরা) ও 'ভয়েস অব পুওর পিপল'-এর যৌথ আয়োজনে এবং শেরপুর ইয়ুথ নেটওয়ার্ক ও শেরপুর উইমেন্স নেটওয়ার্ক-এর সহ-আয়োজনে আন্তর্জাতিক যুব দিবস ২০২৬ উপলক্ষ্যে এক সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সেমিনারের মূল প্রতিপাদ্য ছিল "শেরপুর জেলায় সিসা দূষণে জলবায়ুর ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব ও যুব সমাজের করণীয়"।
শেরপুর উইমেন্স নেটওয়ার্ক-এর শ্রীবরদী উপজেলা শাখার সদস্য সচিব রহিমা আক্তার রিক্তার সভাপতিত্বে এবং শেরপুর ইয়ুথ নেটওয়ার্ক-এর শ্রীবরদী উপজেলা শাখার আহ্বায়ক সোহেল ইসলামের পরিচালনায় সেমিনারে অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন:

বক্তাদের বক্তব্য ও মূল প্রতিপাদ্য: সেমিনারে বক্তারা শেরপুর অঞ্চলে দিন দিন বৃদ্ধি পাওয়া সিসা দূষণ ও পরিবেশগত ক্ষতির বিষয়ে গভীর উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেন। জনস্বাস্থ্য বিশেষজ্ঞ মোঃ আশিক সিসা দূষণের ফলে শিশুদের মস্তিষ্কের বিকাশ ও শারীরিক ঝুঁকির টেকনিক্যাল দিক তুলে ধরেন। ধরা-র যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক রেজা ফরহাদ ও ভয়েস অব পুওর পিপল-এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক জিয়াউর রহমান মুন্না জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের সঙ্গে সিসা দূষণের বহুমুখী প্রভাব মোকাবিলায় তরুণদের সম্মিলিত আন্দোলন গড়ে তোলার ওপর জোর দেন। বক্তারা স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি, ব্যাটারি রিসাইক্লিং মনিটরিং এবং টেকসই পরিবেশ গঠনে পরিবেশবান্ধব পদক্ষেপে যুব সমাজকে নেতৃত্ব দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।

Social Awareness and Action to Prevent Lead Pollution

A courtyard meeting titled "Causes and Effects of Lead Pollution and the Role of the Community in Protecting Child and Public Health" was jointly organized by Dharitri Rokhiye Amra (DHORA) and Voice of Poor People at Ayesha's house in Bangal Bari, Band Bhatpara village, Jhenaigati Upazila, Sherpur.
Chaired by prominent social worker, female leader, and Joint Convenor of DHORA Sherpur District Chapter, Rokeya Parvin, the event was attended by Md. Shahadat Hossain, Chairman of Jhenaigati Sadar Union Parishad, as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Reserved Female Member Mst. Josna Parvin, Indigenous Leader and Development Worker Sumanta Barman, Joint Convenor of Sherpur Women's Network (Jhenaigati) Rozina Akter, and Member Secretary of DHORA Sherpur & Executive Director of Voice of Poor People, Ziaur Rahman Munna. The program was moderated by Nurani Jahan Mim, Joint Convenor of Sherpur Youth Network (Jhenaigati).
Causes and Health Risks of Lead Pollution
Unsafe Battery Recycling: Breaking and smelting used lead-acid batteries in informal or residential areas.
Contaminated Cosmetics and Spices: Presence of lead in low-grade cosmetics, kohl (surma), and adulterated spices used for color enhancement.
Lead-Based Paints: Use of toxic lead-infused paints on household walls and children's toys.
Health Impacts: Lead exposure severely impairs children's physical and mental development, lowers IQ, and causes irreversible damage to the kidneys, nervous system, and cardiovascular health of adults and pregnant women.
Community Actions for Public Health Protection
Raising Awareness: Educating every household about the hazards and primary sources of lead contamination.
Choosing Safe Products: Ensuring the purchase of certified lead-free paints, toys, and food items.
Local Vigilance: Preventing illegal battery dismantling in residential neighborhoods and reporting such activities to local authorities.
Hygiene and Care: Keeping children away from toxic dust and encouraging regular handwashing practices.

বিশিষ্ট সমাজসেবী, নারী নেত্রী ও ধরা শেরপুর জেলার যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক রোকিয়া পারভীনের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ঝিনাইগাতী সদর ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের চেয়ারম্যান জনাব মোঃ শাহাদাৎ হোসেন। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন সংরক্ষিত মহিলা সদস্য মোছাঃ জোসনা পারভীন, আদিবাসী নেতা ও উন্নয়ন কর্মী সুমন্ত বর্মন, শেরপুর উইমেন্স নেটওয়ার্কের যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক রোজিনা আক্তার এবং ধরা শেরপুর জেলার সদস্য সচিব ও ভয়েস অব পুওর পিপল-এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক জিয়াউর রহমান মুন্না। অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন শেরপুর ইয়ুথ নেটওয়ার্কের যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক নুরানী জাহান মিম।
সিসা দূষণের কারণ ও স্বাস্থ্য ঝুঁকি
অস্বাস্থ্যকর ব্যাটারি পুনর্ব্যবহার: বাসাবাড়ি বা অনিয়ন্ত্রিত কারখানা এলাকায় ব্যবহৃত সীসা-অ্যাসিড ব্যাটারি যত্রতত্র ভাঙা ও গলানো।
দূষিত প্রসাধন ও মসলা: নিম্নমানের প্রসাধনসামগ্রী, সুরমা এবং রঙ উজ্জ্বল করতে ভেজাল মসলায় সিসার ক্ষতিকর উপস্থিতি।
সীসাযুক্ত রঙ ও পণ্য: ঘরবাড়ি বা শিশুর খেলনায় অনিরাপদ সীসাযুক্ত রঙের ব্যবহার।
স্বাস্থ্যগত প্রভাব: সিসা দূষণ শিশুদের শারীরিক ও মানসিক বিকাশ মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত করে, আইকিউ (IQ) কমায় এবং গর্ভবতী নারী ও সাধারণ মানুষের রক্তচাপ, কিডনি ও স্নায়ুতন্ত্রের স্থায়ী ক্ষতিসাধন করে।
জনস্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষায় কমিউনিটির করণীয়
সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি: গ্রামের প্রতিটি পরিবারে সিসা দূষণের ভয়াবহতা ও এর উৎস সম্পর্কে ধারণা দেওয়া।
নিরাপদ পণ্যের ব্যবহার: রঙ, খেলনা ও মসলা ক্রয়ের সময় সিসামুক্ত পণ্য নিশ্চিত করা।
স্থানীয় তদারকি: বসতি এলাকায় অবৈধ ব্যাটারি ভাঙা বা গলানোর কাজ প্রতিরোধ করা এবং স্থানীয় প্রশাসনকে অবহিত করা।
পরিচ্ছন্নতা বজায় রাখা: শিশু যেন ধুলাবালি বা সিসাযুক্ত বস্তু মুখে না দেয় সেদিকে খেয়াল রাখা এবং নিয়মিত হাত ধোয়ার অভ্যাস গড়ে তোলা।

পৃথিবীর মোট অক্সিজেনের একটি বিশাল অংশ আসে রেইনফরেস্ট বা চিরহরিৎ বন থেকে। কিন্তু জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন, অপরিকল্পিত নগরায়ণ এবং বন উজাড়ের কারণে আজ এই অমূল্য প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদ মারাত্মক হুমকির মুখে। আমাদের নিজেদের অস্তিত্ব রক্ষা করতেই রেইনফরেস্ট ও এর জীববৈচিত্র্য বাঁচানো জরুরি।

বিশেষ করে আমাদের দেশের ফুসফুস—পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের বনাঞ্চল এবং গারো পাহাড়ের প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশ ও বন্যপ্রাণী রক্ষা করা এখন সময়ের দাবি। প্রকৃতি বাঁচলে, বাঁচবে মানুষ।

📢 আজ বিশ্ব শিশু শ্রম প্রতিরোধ দিবস

শিশুর হাতে বই-খাতা, খেলার সাথি আর উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন থাকার কথা, কোনো ভারী সরঞ্জাম বা কারখানার কাজের বোঝা নয়। কিন্তু বাস্তবতার তাগিদে আজও লাখ লাখ শিশু তাদের শৈশব হারাচ্ছে শ্রমের নিষ্ঠুর যাঁতাকলে।
আসুন, এই শিশু শ্রমের বিরুদ্ধে আমরা সোচ্চার হই। প্রতিটি শিশুর শিক্ষা, সুরক্ষা ও সুন্দর শৈশব নিশ্চিত করা আমাদের সামাজিক ও নৈতিক দায়িত্ব।

শিরোনাম: শেরপুরের পরিবেশ ও মানবতার সুরক্ষায় তরুণদের ঐক্যবদ্ধ হওয়ার আহ্বান! 🌍🌱

প্রিয় শেরপুরবাসী ও তরুণ সমাজ,
আমাদের শেরপুর জেলা প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যে যেমন অনন্য, তেমনি এর পরিবেশগত ভারসাম্য রক্ষা করা আমাদের সকলের দায়িত্ব। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে শেরপুরের বিভিন্ন যুব ভলান্টারি সংগঠন নিজ নিজ উদ্যোগে পরিবেশের উন্নয়ন ও মানবিক সহায়তায় অসাধারণ কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন।
কিন্তু আমরা যদি আলাদা আলাদাভাবে কাজ না করে সবাই এক ছাদের নিচে আসি? যদি আমাদের শক্তি ও চিন্তাভাবনাকে এক করি? তবে কাজের পরিধি ও প্রভাব আরও বহুগুণ বেড়ে যাবে!

🤝 আমাদের লক্ষ্য:
শেরপুর জেলায় পরিবেশ উন্নয়ন ও মানবিক কার্যক্রমে নিয়োজিত সকল যুব সংগঠনকে সংগঠিত করে একটি "শেরপুর পরিবেশ উন্নয়ন ফোরাম" গঠন করা। এই ফোরামের মাধ্যমে আমরা জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মোকাবেলা, বৃক্ষরোপণ, প্লাস্টিক দূষণ রোধ এবং যেকোনো মানবিক সংকটে সম্মিলিতভাবে কাজ করব।

💡 কারা যুক্ত হতে পারবেন?
শেরপুর জেলায় সক্রিয় যেকোনো যুব ভলান্টারি সংগঠন।
পরিবেশ ও সামাজিক উন্নয়ন নিয়ে কাজ করা সামাজিক ক্লাব বা টিম।
তরুণ উদ্যমী পরিবেশকর্মী ও ভলান্টিয়ার।
একত্রে আমরা আরও শক্তিশালী। আসুন, আমাদের শেরপুরকে আরও সবুজ, সুন্দর ও বাসযোগ্য গড়ে তুলতে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হই।

World Environment Day: Seminar Demands Renewable Energy Expansion; Tree Plantation Held in Sherpur

To mark World Environment Day, a seminar demanding the expansion of renewable energy and a tree plantation campaign were held in Sherpur. The events were jointly organized by 'Dharitri Rakshay Amra (DHARA)' and the 'Voice of Poor People'.

Seminar and Action Plan Approval
A seminar focusing on the expansion of renewable energy was held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers Association (IDEA) hall room in Sherpur New Market. The seminar was presided over by eminent educationist, Convener of DHARA Sherpur district unit, and former Principal of Sherpur Government College, Professor Md. Abdur Rashid. Advocate M K Muraduzzaman, former President of the Sherpur District Bar Association and Supreme Court lawyer, was present as the guest.

At the beginning of the seminar, Mominul Islam, Joint Convener of DHARA and environmental activist, delivered a presentation on the environmental degradation of Sherpur district. Following this, Ziaur Rahman Munna, Member Secretary of DHARA Sherpur unit and Executive Director of Voice of Poor People, presented a keynote emphasizing the expansion of renewable energy and calling for a rapid reduction in fossil fuel use.

Among others, women leader Preeti Parveen, Dr. Golam Mostafa, Abdul Kader, and Rotarian Nazmul Hasan also spoke at the event.

The seminar was followed by a planning meeting of DHARA's Sherpur district unit. Member Secretary Ziaur Rahman Munna presented the upcoming action plan for the period from July 2026 to June 2027. After incorporating various suggestions, amendments, and opinions from the participants, the annual action plan was unanimously approved.

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উপলক্ষে শেরপুরে 'ধরিত্রী রক্ষায় আমরা (ধরা)' এবং 'ভয়েস অব পুওর পিপল'-এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি সম্প্রসারণের দাবিতে সেমিনার এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের মাঝে বৃক্ষরোপণ ও চারা বিতরণ কর্মসূচি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।

সেমিনার ও এ্যাকশন প্ল্যান অনুমোদন
শেরপুর জেলার নিউমার্কেটস্থ ইনস্টিটিউট অব ডিপ্লোমা ইঞ্জিনিয়ার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশন (আইডিইএ) হলরুমে নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি সম্প্রসারণের দাবিতে এক সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। 'ধরা' শেরপুর জেলা শাখার আহ্বায়ক, বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদ ও শেরপুর সরকারি কলেজের সাবেক অধ্যক্ষ প্রফেসর মোঃ আব্দুর রশীদের সভাপতিত্বে সেমিনারে অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন শেরপুর জেলা আইনজীবী সমিতির সাবেক সভাপতি ও সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আইনজীবী এম কে মুরাদুজ্জামান।

সেমিনারের শুরুতে শেরপুর জেলার পরিবেশ বিপর্যয়ের ওপর একটি তথ্যবহুল প্রেজেন্টেশন উপস্থাপন করেন 'ধরা'-এর যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক ও পরিবেশ আন্দোলনকর্মী মমিনুল ইসলাম। এরপর নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির গুরুত্ব এবং জীবাশ্ম জ্বালানি দ্রুত হ্রাস করার আহ্বান জানিয়ে মূল প্রেজেন্টেশন উপস্থাপন করেন 'ধরা' শেরপুর জেলা শাখার সদস্য সচিব ও ভয়েস অব পুওর পিপল-এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক জিয়াউর রহমান মুন্না।

সেমিনারে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে বক্তব্য রাখেন নারী নেত্রী প্রীতি পারভীন, ডা. গোলাম মোস্তফা, আব্দুল কাদের এবং রোটারিয়ান নাজমুল হাসান।

সেমিনার শেষে 'ধরা' শেরপুর জেলা শাখার এক পরিকল্পনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সভায় সদস্য সচিব জিয়াউর রহমান মুন্না আগামী জুলাই ২০২৬ থেকে জুন ২০২৭ পর্যন্ত সংগঠনের বার্ষিক 'এ্যাকশন প্ল্যান' (কর্মপরিকল্পনা) উপস্থাপন করেন। উপস্থিত সদস্যদের মতামত, বিভিন্ন বিষয় সংযোজন ও বিয়োজনের পর সর্বসম্মতিক্রমে এই কর্মপরিকল্পনা গৃহীত ও অনুমোদিত হয়।
