Observing the 136th Tirodhan Dibash of Fakir Lalon Shah

Brussels, 17 October 2026: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Brussels pays profound tribute to Fakir Lalon Shah, one of Bengal’s most influential mystic philosophers and Baul saints, on his 136th death anniversary (Tirodhan Dibash).

Today, we join millions across the globe in remembering Lalon Fakir, whose timeless songs continue to transcend borders, conveying universal messages of humanity, secularism, spiritual equality, love, devotion and self-discovery, among others.

His legendary compositions—such as “Khanchar Bhitar Ochin Pakhi”, “Barir Kachhe Arshi Nagar”, and “Amar Gharkhanai Ke Biraj Kore”—remain invaluable treasures of our Baul philosophical and musical tradition, recognized globally for their deep spiritual resonance.

The Government of Bangladesh exerts special significance to this day by announcing this day as an officially observable day from this year.

Let us re-dedicate ourselves to the ideals of harmony and humanity that Lalon Shah championed throughout his life.

Today, H.E. Ambassador Khandker Masudul Alam met with H.E. Mr. Şerban Dimitrie Sturdza, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South Asia (DSAS).

The meeting focused on strengthening the Bangladesh–EU relationship through closer ties between the legislatures, with particular emphasis, among others, on advancing trade and investment, development and economic cooperation, and climate actions.

Today H.E. Khandker Masudul Alam, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Belgium, participated as a panelist in the “Safe Horizons: Zero Tolerance for Violence and Harassment in the Maritime Sector” session in Brussels, alongside IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, European Commission DG MOVE Deputy Director-General Maja Bakran Marcich, and other senior maritime-sector representatives.

The Ambassador highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts to promote safe, inclusive and dignified working conditions for seafarers, including greater participation of women, and shared Bangladesh’s expectations from the Safe Horizons project.

Amb H.E. Khandker Masudul Alam today held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Nicola B**r, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), at the EIB Headquarters in Luxembourg.

The meeting focused on strengthening EIB’s participation in the development sector of Bangladesh, with particular emphasis on financing priority infrastructures and projects in several areas, including connectivity, the green transition and health. EIB remains an important partner of Bangladesh in its continued journey towards sustainable development.
