🏠 Europe cannot solve the housing crisis with one-size-fits-all solutions from Brussels 🇪🇺
The European Commission’s approach to housing risks treating a deeply territorial problem as if it were the same everywhere.
It isn’t.
Housing pressure in a major city is different from the reality of an island, a rural community, a border region or a territory facing intense tourism and short-term rentals.
Yet European housing policy too often overlooks these differences, and the people paying the price are those who can no longer afford to live in their own communities.
📊 THE EUROPEAN HOUSING STRESS INDEX
EFA is bringing the territories into the debate.
The European Housing Stress Index (EHSI) measures where housing pressure is greatest, and, crucially, why. By looking at affordability, availability and territorial pressures, it provides a clearer picture of the housing crisis and helps identify solutions adapted to each community.
Because you cannot fix Europe’s housing crisis if you do not understand where and how it happens.
We need more public and affordable housing, stronger local powers and action against speculation, not policies designed around the interests of the market alone.
Housing is a right, not a commodity.
And Europe must start listening to the territories.
