H.E. Ambassador Khadija Ossoble Ali, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Kingdom of Belgium, held a productive meeting with Ambassador Peter Maddens, Director for Africa at the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on Somalia–Belgium bilateral relations, as well as recent political developments in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa region, with particular attention to the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.

The discussions underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue and continued engagement on matters of mutual interest.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Belgium was pleased to welcome Ambassador Khalid Musa, the newly arrived Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sudan in Belgium.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the longstanding and brotherly relations between Somalia and Sudan, as well as the challenges facing both countries and recent developments across the Horn of Africa.

Somalia and Sudan remain committed to strengthening their friendship and cooperation and to working together in support of peace, stability and prosperity for their peoples and the wider region.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Belgium is pleased to highlight the participation of H.E. Ambassador Khadija Ossoble Ali in the meeting of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) in Amsterdam, representing Somalia.

During the meeting, Ambassador Khadija highlighted Somalia’s productive potential and the importance of translating cooperation with the CFC into concrete investments in agriculture, livestock, fisheries and other key productive sectors.

She also expressed appreciation to the Managing Director of the CFC for his continued engagement with Somalia and support for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth, investment and livelihoods.

Ambassador Khadija Ossoble Ali met with Mr. Michael Gaffey, Director-General at Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in Dublin.

The meeting provided an opportunity for a productive exchange on further deepening 🇸🇴🇮🇪 Somalia–Ireland relations and expanding the partnership beyond development cooperation, with particular focus on peacebuilding, climate resilience, trade and investment.

Ambassador Khadija expressed Somalia’s appreciation for Ireland’s longstanding support and its principled commitment to multilateralism and international law.

The Embassy looks forward to continued engagement and stronger cooperation between Somalia and Ireland.

STATEMENT BY THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA

CLARIFICATION ON SOMALIA'S POSITION ON CYPRUS

Mogadishu, 21st August 2026.

The Federal Republic of Somalia wishes to clarify, following recent references in public discussion, that its position on the Cyprus issue remains unchanged and continues to be guided by the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

Somalia reaffirms its full respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, in accordance with international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, including Resolutions 541 (1983) and 550 (1984).

The referenced personal communication post does not reflect, and shall not be interpreted as, any change in the foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Somalia. It does not constitute recognition of any separate entity in the northern part of Cyprus, and no decision has been taken by the Federal Government to alter its established position.

The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirms its consistent support for a peaceful, negotiated and lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue under the auspices of the United Nations, in accordance with international law and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council. Somalia remains committed to the principles of the United Nations Charter and to the peaceful resolution of disputes.
