Heatwaves are creating new popular holidays destinations 🌊

Endless white beaches, sunsets bursting with a thousand colors, fresh seafood. And a cool breeze to keep the heat just right. Sounds like paradise, right?

Well, guess what, you can enjoy this kind of holidays just 1h30 by train from Brussels, by the North Sea. Because of extreme temperatures, summer 2026 recorded the highest number of tourists at the Belgian coast since before COVID.

What’s more, these paradisiac holidays have a very low CO2e impact! Sometimes, the best trips are the ones that remind us to slow down and appreciate what’s near 💚

What does the “e” in “CO2e” mean? 🤔

➡️ e means equivalent, and is used to include the warming effects of all greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O,…), transformed in a single comparable unit.

To calculate it, the amount of each greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted is scaled based on how much stronger or weaker that gas is compared to CO2: methane, for example, is multiplied by about 28. These scaled amounts are then added together to get the total CO2e.

At Greentripper, we include all GHG when measuring the carbon footprint of a trip, and thus express this impact in CO2e.
