Have you ever been to an art centre that used to be a brewery? 🏛️

That’s what happened with Brasserie Wielemans-Ceuppens in Brussels and it’s a great example of adaptive reuse: giving historic buildings a new purpose while keeping them part of community life.

🇪🇺 The EU supports this kind of transformation, while Creative Europe showcases inspiring examples through the European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra and EUmies Awards.

Because sometimes, preserving heritage means repurposing it.
This is what the European Heritage Days 2026 invite us to explore: how we can revive, resist and reimagine heritage at risk. ✨

Today marks an important step for literacy in Europe: the launch of the European Literacy Coalition. 📚

The Coalition creates a new space for cooperation between governments, educators, libraries, businesses, researchers, civil society and other partners working to strengthen literacy across Europe.

As part of the Action Plan on Basic Skills and the Union of Skills, it will support action through policy advice, research, capacity building and awareness-raising, with a focus on inclusion and equity, early literacy, digital challenges and support for educators.

Literacy is key to learning, participation, critical thinking and social cohesion.

On Equal Pay Day, we’re reminded: equal representation doesn’t automatically mean equal pay. 📊

Women and men now make up almost half of cultural employment each, yet women earn 13.5% less per hour and hold 43.9% of managerial roles.

So, while progress is being made, there is still a gap to close.

That’s why the Culture Compass for Europe puts gender equality, fair remuneration and better working conditions at the heart of its vision for Europe’s cultural and creative sectors. ✨

And in 2027, an EU Artists’ Charter will set out principles for fair working conditions across the sectors.

Equal talent deserves equal pay.
