Serbia: As the elections are approaching the political landscape is changing
With elections scheduled for 25 October, Serbia’s student movement and the wider struggle for democratic change are entering a crucial phase.

The recently founded Initiative for Democratic Socialism (IDS) Inicijativa za demokratski socijalizam has declared its support for the student-led electoral list, while seeking to build a democratic socialist alternative that extends beyond the elections. Representatives of transform! europe and the European Left attended its founding assembly in Novi Sad in September.

A public discussion on the Intellectual and Literary Reflections of the Spanish Civil War at the Nicosia Book Fest. A co-organisation of Transform Europe & Ινστιτούτο Ερευνών Προμηθέας.

The Spanish Civil War was a critical event not only in the political and social history of Spain, but also in its intellectual and literary life. The discussion explores the role of intellectuals and the relationship between political engagement, ideology, literature, and culture during the war.

🇪🇸 Javier Moreno, a professor at the University of Seville, examined the activities of PCE intellectuals during the Civil War, while philologist 🇨🇾 Giorgos Myaris presented the war’s impact on Cypriot literature, with reference to the work of Theodosis Pieridis.

Brasil at a crossroads. Democracy, Latin America, the world: presidential elections’ stakes

Brazil is heading into a decisive runoff. After a first round in which Flávio Bolsonaro finished narrowly ahead of Lula, the country faces a choice whose consequences reach far beyond its borders.

On 13 October 2026 (18:00–19:30 CET), transform! europe invites you to a webinar with Jana Silverman, professor of International Relations and Coordinator of the International Committee of the DSA, and Pablo Vommaro, independent researcher and executive director of CLACSO.

Together, they will examine what is at stake for Brazilian democracy and social rights, for the balance of forces in South America, and for a region confronted with a renewed Trumpist imperialism. We will also discuss what the outcome means for progressive struggles and the defence of democracy worldwide, including in Europe, where the far right is watching closely and drawing on the same playbook.

Before going deep into detailed discussions on diverse issues of our 2026 General Assembly, we kicked off with a political debate featuring voices from across the European left, including Walter Baier (President of the European Left), Coll McCail Progressive International (Progressive International), Marisa Matias (For The People Foundation), Ricard Ribera (Neus Catalá Foundation), Belen López Sánchez (CCOO de Catalunya) and many others, stressing the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in the struggles ahead.

Our 2026 General Assembly took place in Barcelona, with Fundació Neus Català, our member in Catalonia, being our hosting organisation!
CCOO de Catalunya generously offered us their headquarters so we can organise our meetings for more than two days. More than 40 representatives from 28 Transform Europe member and observer organisations debated european and international politics, left-wing critiques and alternatives, and shared ideas on our workplan for 2027-2029. ✨

Transform! Europe expanded its network of full members, elected a new board and adopted a new anti-sexist and anti-harassment protocol.

Thanks everyone for joining - we are excited to undertake all the projects, events and conferences we have discussed and transform Europe with our ideas and theory into a better place for everyone ✊🚩❤️‍🔥
