The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria hosted a discussion meeting on the theme “Power of Synergy: Energy Security and Green Transition”, bringing together representatives of leading Bulgarian academic institutions, energy, green economy and urban experts, and strategic stakeholders to exchange views on the preparation of a high-level event planned for 2026.

The discussion focused on opportunities for enhancing Azerbaijan–Bulgaria cooperation in the fields of , , , technological innovation, and academic partnership, while also exploring broader regional dimensions of and .

The event brought together representatives of the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, The University of National and World Economy (UNWE), the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG), SOCAR Office in Sofia, and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

During the discussions, the participants highlighted the growing importance of regional cooperation in ensuring , strengthening sustainable infrastructure, and balancing energy with cleaner and more resilient energy systems. Particular attention was paid to the role of academic institutions and scientific cooperation in supporting innovation-driven approaches to energy security, green transformation and creation of new sustainable jobs at the national and cities level.

The discussions also highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing global contribution through major international platforms such as and the upcoming World Urban Forum ( ), reflecting the country’s commitment to advancing international dialogue on , sustainable urban development, green transition, and creating long-term global legacy initiatives in these fields.

The representatives of the participating universities emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between Universities of and in areas such as , , urban sustainability, industrial innovation, and scientific exchange. The participants also underlined the strategic significance of public-private-academia partnership in addressing emerging regional and global energy challenges.

The meeting also served as a preparatory platform for the forthcoming high-level event on “Power of : Energy Security and Green Transition”, planned to be held in 2026 by the initiative of the Embassy, which is expected to bring together policymakers, universities, academic leaders, industry representatives, and international experts to further advance dialogue and cooperation in the fields of energy security and sustainable development.

Ambassador Elmar Mammadov presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Ms. Iliana Yotova.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Elmar Mammadov conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Ambassador Mammadov noted that he was honoured to commence his diplomatic mission in the Republic of Bulgaria and expressed his commitment to further strengthening the friendly relations and strategic partnership between the two countries.

At the meeting held following the presentation of credentials, President Iliana Yotova expressed her appreciation for the successful development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The sides reaffirmed the strategic partnership established between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Bulgaria in 2015 and emphasized the importance of further enhancing cooperation across various areas of the bilateral agenda.

Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the birth of the founder of modern Azerbaijan, National Leader Heydar Aliyev. We honour the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev with deep respect, reverence, and profound gratitude. The bright and cherished memory of this great statesman will live forever in our hearts.

May 9, 2026 marks the 81st anniversary of the Victory in World War II. On this occasion, we pay tribute to the memory of the soldiers, officers, and civilians of Azerbaijan who demonstrated courage and heroism and endured immense hardships during one of the deadliest wars in human history.
The Azerbaijani people made an important contribution to this victory. More than 600,000 Azerbaijani sons and daughters took part in the war, more than half of whom were killed or went missing on the front lines. For the courage shown during the war years, 123 citizens of Azerbaijan were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and more than 170,000 soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals. The brave representatives of our people took an active part in the liberation of many countries from fascism.
Azerbaijan’s contribution to the victory through its supply of fuel was invaluable. During the war of 1941-1945, Azerbaijan accounted for more than 70 percent of the oil produced in the Soviet Union, 80 percent of gasoline and 90 percent of motor oils. The vast majority of tanks and planes of the Soviet army, which played a decisive role in ensuring the Victory over fascism in World War II, relied on fuel supplied by Baku’s oil workers.
The people of Azerbaijan demonstrated unprecedented labor feats on the rear front, day and night selflessly working to meet the needs of the army. Our fellow citizens donated more than seven tons of blood for the front, and played an important role in supplying troops with food and warm clothing. In the name of the Victory over fascism, Azerbaijan mobilized all its resources. The memory of all our sons and daughters will live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people. We remember their courage, sacrifice, and heroism with deep respect and gratitude.

The Embassy of the Republic of to the Republic of hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The event brought together representatives of Bulgarian state institutions, the diplomatic corps, academia, and the Azerbaijani community to honor the enduring legacy of Heydar Aliyev and his exceptional contribution to Azerbaijani statehood, regional cooperation, and Azerbaijan–Bulgaria relations.

The commemorative programme also featured a concert entitled “Musical Tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev,” performed by Bulgarian pianist Ana Lincheva.

The thirteenth meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia and the Commission on Delimitation of the State Border and Border Security Issues between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan.
