There is an international interest in what “Health and inclusive education for all” -
programme is doing in the field of health and education for vulnerable communities in Bulgaria!
Today, Mr Thoms Stauffer, Head of the Swiss Contribution Office had the pleasure of greeting the 2nd cohort of the "Education Leaders" track of the Collège international de Villers-Cotterêts, which is in Sofia for a 5-day visit. 23 senior education officials from various countries around the world are gathered to begin an 8-month training programme aimed at strengthening their capacity to lead ambitious education reforms.
The meeting took place at the Center for Educational Integration of Children and Students from Ethnic Minorities, which is a partner in the implementation of programme, part of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme. Швейцарско-българска програма за сътрудничество

The members of the international cohort got involved in a lively discussion on topics related to gender equality, early dropouts from school and early marriages. The leading role of the Educational mediator was highlighted in the smooth collaboration between the community and the institutions in challenging situations. Some of the shared stories by the participating educational mediators raised the topic for the role of the education as the true path to success.

Днес г-н Томас Щауфер, ръководител на Офиса на швейцарското сътрудничество, имаше удоволствието да приветства втората група от програмата „Лидери в образованието“ на Collège international de Villers-Cotterêts, която е в София благодарение на Френския институт за 5-дневно посещение. 23 висши служители в областта на образованието от различни страни по света са се събрали, за да започнат 8-месечна програма за обучение, насочена към укрепване на капацитета им да водят амбициозни образователни реформи.

Срещата се състоя в Центъра за образователна интеграция на деца и ученици от етнически малцинства, който е партньор в изпълнението на програма ZOV II, част от Швейцарско-българската програма за сътрудничество.

Членовете на международната група се включиха в оживена дискусия по теми, свързани с равенството между половете, ранното отпадане от училище и ранните бракове. Беше подчертана водещата роля на образователния медиатор за доброто сътрудничество между общността и институциите в предизвикателни ситуации. Някои от споделените истории от участващите образователни медиатори повдигнаха темата за ролята на образованието като истинския път към успеха.

🇨🇭This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the consular team from the Regional Consular Center in Bucharest, led by the Swiss Consul René Seiler. Equipped with a mobile biometric station, the team assisted around 40 Swiss citizens at our Embassy with the renewal of their passports 🪪🔐 Their visit also provided a great opportunity to host a friendly gathering for the Swiss community in Sofia — a moment to connect and strengthen our ties 🤝
A big thank you to our colleagues from the Consular Center for their dedication and continued support to the Swiss community in Bulgaria, which counts nearly 600 citizens 🇧🇬

🧬 Radoslav Alexandrov from the Institute of Molecular Biology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is among the young researchers supported by the Swiss-Bulgarian Research Programme

His project proposal “Deciphering DNA Damage Response Dynamics in Living Cells” is funded by the component and selected among the top three candidates in the final evaluation session at the Swiss National Science Foundation. He will receive CHF 625,000 to implement the project in Bulgaria.

🔬 The research of Radoslav focuses on understanding how cells repair damaged DNA and how the mechanisms responsible for maintaining genome integrity function. This knowledge is essential in the fight against diseases such as cancer, immunodeficiency disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and rare genetic conditions.

🇧🇬🇨🇭 The Swiss-Bulgarian Research Programme supports scientific excellence, international exchange, and career opportunities for young researchers in Bulgaria, while also helping to counteract brain drain through initiatives such as . The Programme gives researchers the opportunity to obtain an assistant professorship in Bulgaria and strengthen their academic careers through collaboration with leading international partners.

🧸👧👦 On the occasion of the 2026 Belezhnik edition to highlight the importance of the rights of children in Bulgaria, Mr. Thomas Stauffer, Swiss Contribution Office Head, had the honor to open the official annual Report Card presentation for the National Network for Children (NNC).

📚The Report card is the NNC’s assessment of Bulgaria for its care for children and families. It is a tool for independent monitoring of children’s rights, which assesses the progress of state policies for children through analysis based on facts and data.

🇨🇭🤝🇧🇬 The Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme supports the NNC specifically through the Networks in Action project, which enhances civic participation, builds capacity, and empowers civil society networks working on children’s rights and democratic engagement. This project is implemented under the Civic Engagement and Transparency Facility 2024–2029 within the framework of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme and brings together seven of the largest and most significant networks of civil society organizations in Bulgaria and one Swiss organization working to protect and promote democracy.

We wish them continued success in their future endeavours.

🧸👧👦 По повод изданието Бележник 2026 и за да се подчертае значението на правата на децата в България, г-н Томас Щауфер, Ръководител на Швейцарския офис за сътрудничество, имаше честта да открие официалното представяне на годишния Бележник на Национална мрежа за децата(НМД).

📚 Бележникът е оценката на НМД за грижата на България към децата и семействата. Той е инструмент за независим мониторинг на правата на децата, който оценява напредъка на държавните политики за децата чрез анализ, основан на факти и данни.

🇨🇭🤝🇧🇬 Швейцарско-българска програма за сътрудничество подкрепя НМД чрез проекта „Мрежи в действие“, който насърчава гражданското участие, развива капацитет и укрепва гражданските мрежи, работещи в областта на правата на децата и демократичното участие. Проектът се реализира в рамките на Механизма за гражданска ангажираност и прозрачност 2024–2029 и обединява седем от най-големите и значими мрежи на граждански организации в България, както и една швейцарска организация, работещи за защита и насърчаване на демокрацията.

🇨🇭🇧🇬 This week marks the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme (SBCP). Швейцарско-българска програма за сътрудничество

Ambassador Pierre Hagmann, together with representatives of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO Economic Cooperation and Development, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, the State Secretariat for Migration Secrétariat d'État aux migrations SEM detatpourmigration , and the Swiss Contribution Office in Bulgaria, met with Deputy Prime Minister for European Funding Maria Nedina, Ivan Ivanov, Director of the Central Coordination Unit Directorate, and Bulgarian institutions. The discussions focused on reviewing progress and further strengthening cooperation under the SBCP.

The 4th Annual Meeting highlights the achievements of the past year across the SBCP’s 11 on-going Support Measures, as well as the progress made under the Framework Agreement between Bulgaria and Switzerland in the field of migration. Throughout the visit, the Swiss delegation has been engaging in constructive discussions with Bulgarian partners responsible for environment, public safety, education, health, and justice, reaffirming a shared commitment to meaningful and results-oriented cooperation.

Key implementation challenges were also addressed, alongside the identification of concrete steps to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of the Programme.

The Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme, part of Switzerland’s second Swiss Contribution (2022–2029), provides CHF 92.5 million to support Bulgaria’s economic and social development, along with CHF 21.35 million dedicated to migration measures. Bulgaria is the only country to benefit from both pillar of the second Swiss Contribution, namely cohesion and migration.

The SBCP aims to:

• Promote economic growth and reduce youth unemployment 📈
• Manage migration and support integration while enhancing public safety 🛡️
• Protect the environment and address climate challenges 🌱
• Strengthen health and social systems 🏥
• Foster transparent and inclusive civic engagement 🗣️

The second Swiss Contribution is a key element of Switzerland’s European policy, contributing to greater cohesion and stability across Europe while strengthening bilateral partnerships.

Last week, Ambassador H.E. Pierre Hagmann had the pleasure of welcoming four 🇨🇭apprentices from Noser Young to the Embassy of Switzerland in Bulgaria 🇧🇬. They are currently completing a one‑month internship at Noser Bulgaria in Sofia, gaining hands‑on vocational training experience in an international environment 🌍

We enjoyed an inspiring discussion about the Embassy’s work and introduced them to the impact of the Swiss Bulgarian Cooperation Programme , with a special focus on the programme dedicated to Dual Vocational Education Training (dVET) called DOMINO 2 🎓🤝.

Noser Bulgaria and Noser Young are part of the 🇨🇭 company Noser Group, known for its expertise in ICT, IT Service Management, Software Engineering, Cognitive AI, and Business Process management combining Bulgarian IT passion with Swiss values and quality 💡💻.

We’re excited to join in a 3-days capacity building training under the Lighthouse Project – Networks in Action – supported by the Civic Engagement and Transparency Facility, which brings together civil society actors from all 6 regions of Bulgaria. During the past three days the Old Mill in Karpachevo, Devetaki Plateau hosted more than 20 motivated individuals for insightful exchange, enriched by the valuable expertise and facilitation of the Swiss Democracy Foundation.

Through practical inputs, interactive discussions, and shared experiences, the Swiss Democracy Foundation supported participants to strengthen their moderation skills, deepen collaboration, and make better use of networks as drivers of democratic and social change.

The Mayor of Община Летница Letnitsamunicipality Dr Krasimir Dzhonev and the Head of the Swiss Contribution Office Mr Thomas Stauffer encouraged the participants to engage in active collaboration also with the local government for building stronger societies while promoting democratic participation.

Радваме се да се включим в тридневно обучение за изграждане на капацитет в рамките на проекта „Lighthouse“ – „Мрежи в действие“ – подкрепен от Механизма за гражданска ангажираност и прозрачност, който обединява представители на гражданското общество от всички 6 региона на България. През изминалите три дни Старата мелница в Карпачево в Деветашкото плато прие над 20 мотивирани участници за ползотворен обмен, обогатен от ценния опит на Швейцарската фондация за демокрация.

Чрез практически съвети, интерактивни дискусии и споделен опит Швейцарската фондация за демокрация подкрепи участниците да развият модераторски умения, да задълбочат сътрудничеството си и да използват по-добре гражданските мрежи като двигатели на демократичната и социална промяна.
Кметът на община Летница д-р Красимир Джонев и ръководителят на Швейцарския офис за сътрудничество г-н Томас Щауфер насърчиха участниците да се ангажират в активно сътрудничество и с местната власт за изграждане на по-силни общества, като същевременно насърчават демократичното участие.

🌿🇨🇭🇧🇬 The legacy of Daniel Neff, the Swiss landscape gardener whose vision laid the foundations of Borisova Gradina - Sofia’s oldest and most emblematic public park - was honoured.

🇨🇭🤝🇧🇬 Ambassador Pierre Hagmann and Mayor of Sofia Vassil Terziev laid flowers in recognition of Daniel Neff’s lasting contribution to the city’s green heritage.

🙏🇧🇬 Sincere thanks to Sofia Municipality for the meticulous restoration of the letters on the commemorative plate, helping preserve the memory of the man who introduced modern European landscape design to Bulgaria and shaped Sofia’s urban identity as early as 1882!

Invited to Sofia by Mayor Ivan Hadzhienov, Daniel Neff 🇨🇭 served as the first chief designer of what would become Borisova Gradina 🇧🇬. He developed the park’s first master plan, established municipal nurseries, introduced structured alleys and decorative flowerbeds, and oversaw the planting of diverse tree species that still define the park today. Neff worked in Sofia for 18 years and became a Bulgarian citizen, reflecting his deep connection to the city and the long‑standing friendship between Switzerland and Bulgaria.🌳🇨🇭🇧🇬 More than a century later, his legacy lives on in every alley, tree, and open space of Borisova Gradina.

🌿🇨🇭🇧🇬 Отдадохме почит към наследството на Даниел Неф – швейцарския ландшафтен градинар, чиято визия положи основите на Борисовата градина – най‑стария и най‑емблематичен парк в София.

🇨🇭🤝🇧🇬 Посланик Пиер Хагман и кметът на София Васил Терзиев поднесоха цветя в знак на признание за приноса на Даниел Неф към зеленото наследство на града.

🙏🇧🇬 Искрени благодарности към Столична община за прецизната реставрация на надписите върху възпоменателната плоча, допринасяща за съхраняване паметта за човека, който въведе модерното европейско ландшафтно изкуство в България и още от 1882 г. оформи облика на София!

Поканен в София от тогавашния кмет Иван Хаджиенов, Даниел Неф 🇨🇭 става първият главен проектант на това, което по‑късно ще бъде известно като Борисовата градина 🇧🇬. Той разработва първия план на парка, създава общински разсадници, въвежда оформени алеи и цветни лехи и ръководи засаждането на разнообразни дървесни видове. Неф работи в София 18 години и приема българско гражданство – свидетелство за дълбоката му връзка с града и дългогодишното приятелство между Швейцария и България. 🌳🇨🇭🇧🇬 Повече от век по‑късно неговото наследство живее във всяка алея и всяко открито пространство на Борисовата градина.
