France–Bahrain: Strengthening Economic Dialogue

On June 2, H.E. Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, took part in a working breakfast hosted by H.E. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, at the Élysée Palace.

The discussions focused on global economic developments, international markets, investment opportunities and sustainable development.

وتناولت المباحثات تطورات الاقتصاد العالمي، والأسواق الدولية، وفرص الاستثمار، والتنمية المستدامة.

Reprise de caption: France condemns in the strongest possible terms the Iranian attacks on Bahrain. Statement by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

On June 2, H.E. Mr. Éric Giraud-Telme, Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, met with H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education.

The meeting focused on education and higher education cooperation, and ways to further strengthen France-Bahrain relations.

The parties highlighted the strong momentum of Franco-Bahraini cooperation in the academic field, as reflected in the launch of a new initiative at the University of Bahrain entitled the “French Day at UoB”, as well as the multiple ongoing discussions between prestigious French and Bahraini universities and schools across a wide range of fields of study.

This meeting was also an opportunity to reiterate both parties’ desire to strengthen the teaching of French language in the Kingdom and to explore new avenues of cooperation in this regard for the coming months, including in the field of video games.

في 2 يونيو، التقى سعادة السيد إيريك جيرو تيلم، سفير فرنسا لدى مملكة البحرين، بسعادة الدكتور محمد بن مبارك جمعة، وزير التربية والتعليم.

وتناول اللقاء التعاون في مجالي التعليم والتعليم العالي، وسبل تعزيز العلاقات بين فرنسا والبحرين.

وأكد الجانبان الزخم القوي الذي يشهده التعاون الفرنسي البحريني في المجال الأكاديمي، والذي تعكسه إطلاق مبادرة جديدة في جامعة البحرين تحت عنوان «اليوم الفرنسي في جامعة البحرين»، إلى جانب النقاشات المتعددة الجارية بين عدد من الجامعات والمدارس الفرنسية والبحرينية المرموقة في مجموعة واسعة من مجالات الدراسة.

كما شكّل هذا اللقاء فرصة لتأكيد رغبة الجانبين في تعزيز تعليم اللغة الفرنسية في المملكة، واستكشاف آفاق جديدة للتعاون في هذا المجال خلال الأشهر المقبلة، بما في ذلك في مجال ألعاب الفيديو.

The Choose France Summit, held on 1 June 2026 at the Château de Versailles, highlighted the growing momentum of the economic partnership between France and Bahrain.

A Bahraini delegation led by Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mumtalakat, and composed of Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Mumtalakat, and Khalid Amr Al Rumaihi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), took part in this major economic event.

On the sidelines of the summit, Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa met with Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Roland Lescure, Minister of Economy, Finance, Industry, Energy and Digital Affairs, as well as Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness.

Several major announcements also reflected the strengthening of this cooperation, including Aluminium Bahrain’s majority stake acquisition in Aluminium Dunkerque, as well as the strategic partnership between Mumtalakat and the French company TRAIL, through the SLAM fund dedicated to sport, luxury, arts and music.

These initiatives reflect the shared commitment to developing investment, strengthening industrial ties and supporting sustainable economic cooperation between France and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
