“Our seniors came dressed to impress in their Tea Party attire! Hosted by Ageing and Disability Services, the ‘Elder Abuse Awareness Tea’ served as a platform to raise awareness about elder abuse, promote socialising among seniors, and encourage education on preventing such abuse,” said the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon.Tinee Furbert, JP, MP.
“The event brought together individuals from various backgrounds who are committed to making a difference in the lives of seniors. By fostering understanding, education, compassion, and empathy, this annual event aims to create a community where every senior is cherished, protected, and respected,” said Mrs. Keeona Belboda, Senior Abuse Registrar and Manager at Ageing and Disability Services.
“During the event, the importance of socialising in preventing and addressing senior abuse was emphasised. It was noted that fostering an environment where seniors can connect with others in the community establishes a support system that combats isolation and vulnerability.
Minister Furbert concluded, “On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I want to express heartfelt gratitude to Ageing and Disability Services for their dedicated efforts in organising this event and recognise their passion and commitment to the cause of elder care.
“This event served as a powerful message of the community’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of seniors.
“Bermuda, it is our responsibility as a community to protect our seniors and ensure their safety, well-being, and dignity. We need collective action, and I urge everyone to stand united and raise awareness about elder abuse.”
