BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TONIGHT, TOMORROW AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 P.M. EDT, Tuesday, June 23, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 A.M. EDT TOMORROW.

WARNING IN EFFECT:
HEAT ADVISORY: A heat advisory remains in effect for the Northern and portions of the Northwest Bahamas (inclusive of the islands of Grand Bahama, Bimini, Abaco and The Berry Islands). The public should remain hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities and seek shaded areas during peak heat hours.

DUST ADVISORY: A Dust Advisory is now in effect for the Northern,
Northwest and Central Bahamas. Moderate Saharan dust concentrations are affecting the aforementioned areas, reducing visibility and impacting air quality. Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, should take the necessary precautions to safeguard their health.

Moderate to fresh winds and calm to moderate seas is throughout the island chain. Dust particles are migrating into the Northern Islands while skies in the Southeast parts of the country begin to clear.

OUTLOOK: A secondary plume of Saharan dust and broad ridging will dominate all areas through to midweek. SEVERE WEATHER WARNING UPDATE
The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has re-issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning valid from 11:15 PM, Sunday 21st June 2026 to 1:15 AM Monday 22nd June 2026.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is NOW in effect for New Providence and its adjacent waters and cays.

The Severe Weather warning for North Eleuthera (from Current Island to Upper Bogue) along with their adjacent waters and cays has been cancelled.

At 11:12 pm, lightning detection, observation, radar, and satellite imagery depicted a cluster of moderate to heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms moving across and towards the warning areas. These showers and thunderstorms are associated with troughing combined with lingering tropical moisture near the warning areas.

Some of these showers will be locally heavy and thunderstorms will be strong and severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, possible hail, waterspout and/or tornadic activity. Localized flooding is also possible during these storms.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbor and residents should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.

BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 P.M. EDT, Sunday, June 21, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 A.M. EDT TOMORROW.

Moderate Saharan dust concentrations are affecting the aforementioned areas, reducing visibility and impacting air quality. Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, should take the necessary precautions to safeguard their health.

GENERAL SITUATION: Lingering moisture will continue to keep hot and humid conditions in place, while triggering isolated showers and short-lived thunderstorms across the northern territories throughout the period. Elsewhere, a dense plume of Saharan Dust embedded within a prominent ridge building across the area will continue to blanket the Central and Southeast Bahamas tonight, eventually spreading into the Northwest Bahamas on Monday. This will allow for an increasingly stable weather regime across the majority of the islands for the start of the work week.

Outlook: Over the next few days, expect slight to moderate seas across the chain of islands along with moderate to fresh breezes. Winds may occasionally gust strong across portions of the Southeast Bahamas by late Monday into Tuesday. Weak troughing and tropical moisture will persist over the Northern Bahamas through Tuesday, keeping showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for those islands. Over the remainder of the country, a secondary plume of Saharan dust and broad ridging will dominate, acting to suppress rainfall and convective activity while maintaining very warm temperatures. By Thursday, increasing troughing over the northern islands is expected to raise shower and thunderstorm chances once again on Friday into Saturday.

BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

FORECASTS FOR THE BAHAMAS FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, Sunday, June 21, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 12:00 P.M. EDT.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Northern and portions of the Northwest Bahamas (inclusive of the islands of Grand Bahama, Bimini, Abaco and The Berry Islands). The public should remain hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities and seek shaded areas during peak heat hours.

GENERAL SITUATION: Weather conditions will remain somewhat unsettled across the Northern and parts of the Northwest Bahamas today through this evening, as mid- to low-level troughing combines with deep moisture associated with a fragmented frontal system situated just north of the archipelago. Elsewhere, a substantial plume of Saharan dust, together with broad ridging, will support generally stable weather conditions across the Central and Southeastern Bahamas. However, hazy skies, very warm temperatures, and humid conditions are expected to persist.

Severe Thunderstorm Risk: There is a moderate risk of a few severe thunderstorms that may impact portions of the Northern & Northwest Bahamas today. Residents are urged to remain updated on all severe weather warnings issued by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES:
Rip Currents: There is a slight risk of rip currents along Atlantic-exposed beaches of the archipelago. Beachgoers are urged to exercise caution.

Saharan Dust: Moderate Saharan dust concentrations are affecting the Central and Southeast Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Islands, reducing visibility and impacting air quality. Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, should take the necessary precautions to safeguard their health.

UV Index: Members of the public are advised to wear protective clothing and sunscreen, and seek shaded areas while outside during peak sunshine hours (10am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be in the very high to extreme range.
