RBDF NATIONAL YOUTH GUARD INSTRUCTORS RECOGNISED
DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS, RBDF (June 22, 2026) – The Royal Bahamas Defence Force recognized the outstanding contributions of National Youth Guard (NYG) instructors during an Appreciation Certificate Presentation Ceremony held on board HMBS Coral Harbour on Wednesday 17 June 2026.
The ceremony celebrated the commitment, professionalism, and mentorship demonstrated by instructors who play an instrumental role in the success of the NYG Programme. Through their dedication and leadership, these instructors help shape and inspire young Bahamians, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and national pride.
Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Sonia Miller, expressed gratitude to the instructors for their unwavering service and investment in the nation’s youth. She presented certificates of appreciation as a token of thanks for their commitment to developing future leaders and responsible citizens.
The National Youth Guard (NYG) was officially launched on October 21, 2022, by the Office of the Prime Minister. It is an intensive training programme focused on equipping young Bahamians with the tools needed to assist the nation with the help of private agencies during national emergencies, such as natural disasters.

RBDF ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZES TECHNICAL TRAINING GRADUATES
Defence Headquarters, 10 JUNE 26 (RBDF): The Engineering & Technical Operations Department hosted an awards presentation ceremony on 10 June 2026 to recognize eighteen (18) Marines for successfully completing the Technical Training Programme.
The programme is designed to provide technicians with practical, hands-on experience and operational knowledge applicable to real-world situations encountered throughout the Fleet. Unlike traditional academic courses, the programme does not include written examinations. Instead, emphasis is placed on practical competency, troubleshooting, and the application of technical skills in realistic operational environments.
Throughout the course, participants attend a series of instructional sessions and PowerPoint presentations delivered by experienced engineering subject matter experts. These presentations were complemented by extensive practical demonstrations and hands-on training exercises designed to reinforce technical proficiency.
The comprehensive curriculum covered a broad range of engineering and vessel-specific topics, including emergency generators, fire and bilge pumps, fuelling systems, shipboard procedures, hydraulic systems, navigation lights, firefighting equipment and procedures, towing operations, and general engineering practices across the Fleet. It also incorporated systems and equipment found aboard various classes of vessels, including the 60-metre and 32-metre patrol craft, ensuring that Marines gain familiarity with the diverse engineering requirements of the Fleet.
During the fourth week of the programme, Marines underwent practical assessments and evaluations, allowing them to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training period. These assessments focused on real-life scenarios and operational challenges commonly encountered by technicians in the ex*****on of their duties.
Addressing the graduates, senior engineers commended them for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to expanding their technical expertise. The successful completion of the programme reflects the Marines' determination to achieve excellence and their readiness to contribute to the operational effectiveness and maintenance capabilities of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
The awards presentation ceremony served as both a recognition of individual achievement and a testament to the Engineering & Technical Operations Department’s commitment to professional development and technical excellence. By investing in the growth and development our personnel, we maintain a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting the demands of modern maritime operations.

MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY CONDUCTS FIRST OFFICIAL TOUR OF HMBS CORAL HARBOUR
DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS, RBDF (June 19, 2026) – Minister of National Security, the Hon. Myles Kentworth LaRoda M.P., conducted his first official tour of HMBS Coral Harbour on Friday, 19 June 2026.
The Hon. Minister was accompanied by Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, and his Executive Leadership. The tour provided firsthand insight of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s operations, capabilities, and modernization initiatives on board HMBS Coral Harbour. Captain Coral Harbour is Captain Sonia Miller OM.
The Hon. Minister visited several key departments and facilities across the Base and observed the day-to-day activities that support the RBDF’s mission of safeguarding The Bahamas’ maritime domain and national security interests.
For example, the Administration, Engineering & Technical Operations Department, Squadron, Base Supply, Commando Squadron, the Medical Facility, the Operations Center and the Planning/Sea Simulator, where personnel provided operational briefings and outlined their respective roles in maintaining Force readiness. The Hon. Minister also visited the Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy, where he interacted with New-Entry recruits, and observed the training environment, inclusive of dormitories.
The Hon. Minister also visited Coney Island, where personnel from the Communications Unit, Drone Academy, Transport Workshop, Capital Development Unit, Disaster Risk Management Unit, and the Container City showcased the critical support services and operational capabilities that enable the Defence Force to effectively execute its mission and mandate.
The Hon. Minister also viewed the progress on the construction of the new Supply Warehouse, a key infrastructure project designed to enhance the RBDF’s logistics, storage capacity, and operational efficiency. Demonstrations and briefings highlighted the Force's growing use of technology, enhanced disaster response preparedness, and commitment to maintaining operational readiness.
The Hon. Minister LaRoda commended officers and marines for their leadership, professionalism, dedication, and service to the nation.

RBDF COMPLETE TACTICAL COMBAT CASUALTY CARE TRAINING
DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS, 18 JUNE 2026 (RBDF): Officers and Marines attached to the Commando Squadron and Military Police & Force Protection Unit successfully completed a Tactical Combat Casualty Care Level 1 Course conducted from 15 -18 June 2026, onboard HMBS Coral Harbour.
The Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Tier 1 Course, officially known as TCCC-ASM (All Service Members), is a 7-hour foundational program designed by the U.S. DoD Joint Trauma System. It teaches non-medical personnel and first responders how to treat the leading causes of preventable battlefield deaths. For example, evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield.
The course was facilitated by subject matter experts from the Rhode Island National Guard Medical Detachment, to enhance the RBDF’s practical lifesaving knowledge and immediate medical response in high-pressure operational environments.
The Core Curriculum includes:
•Care Under Fire: Threat suppression, moving casualties, and applying tourniquets while under active attack.
•Tactical Field Care: Checking for injuries in the correct order (MARCH protocol: Massive Hemorrhage, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Head/Hypothermia).
•Evacuation: Preparing casualties for litter movement and casualty transport (CASEVAC).
The training also reinforced the importance of discipline, confidence, and sound decision-making when responding to injuries during field operations, security duties, and emergency situations.
On completion of the training, Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Sonia Miller, presented certificates and commended participants for their commitment to professional development and operational readiness.
The successful completion of the course further enhances the RBDF’s operational capability by equipping personnel with critical skills that can assist with life preservation during emergencies. For members of the Commando Squadron and Military Police & Force Protection Unit this training is especially valuable, as their duties often require quick response, composure, and the ability to operate effectively in dynamic environments.

RBDF JUNIOR RATES MESS FATHER’S DAY INITIATIVE
Defence Headquarters, 22 June 2026 (RBDF): The Junior Rates Mess conducted a Father’s Day initiative for Marines who are fathers, as a show of morale, appreciation, espirit de corps, and support.
Marines from various outposts received gifts and recognition for their dual sacrifice of serving and contributing towards the mission and mandate of the RBDF while striving to remain actively present in their children’s lives. By coordinating and facilitating this Father’s Day initiative for Marines who are fathers, the Junior Rates Mess acknowledges the emotional resilience, responsibility to duty, and to their families.
The Marines expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture, which served as a meaningful reminder that their dedication, sacrifice, and role as fathers are appreciated. Leading Seaman Roderico Carroll, currently serves as President of the Junior Rates Mess.
Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey commended the President of the Mess for this timely, relevant and significant initiative. In his official message to all fathers he reiterated ‘Your presence, love, guidance and sacrifice, continues to be a source of strength to your families, your communities and your nation. Though the weight of the world often rest on your shoulders, you continue to stand firm, tried and proven, leading with courage, commitment and love.

RBDF RANGERS’ INSTALLATION CEREMONY IN SOUTH ANDROS AND MANGROVE CAY
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers South Andros and Mangrove Cay Company hosted an Installation Ceremony on Sunday, 14 June 2026, at the South Andros Multi-Purpose Gym in The Bluff, South Andros.
In attended was Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Carlon Bethell on behalf of Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey. He commended the Rangers for their discipline, dedication, and determination throughout their training and encouraged them to uphold the values and standards of the Rangers Programme as they continue their personal development. He described the ceremony as a testament of the RBDF’s commitment to enriching the lives of the Nation’s youth throughout the length and breadth of The Bahamas.
Ms. Malissa Evans-Rolle, Principal of South Andros High School shared how important the Rangers’ program is to her students and the Andros community. Leading Seaman Denaldo Thompson, reported the Parade to Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Carlon Bethell before Ranger Keshawn Kemp, led as the Parade Commander.

RBDF RANGERS’ INSTALLATION CEREMONY FOR 31 CADETS IN NORTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers North and Central Andros Company officially welcomed 31 new cadets during an Installation Ceremony held on Saturday, 13 June 2026, at the Carl Oliver Track and Field Arena.
The Ceremony marked an important milestone for the young cadets as they formally joined the RBDF Rangers Programme, embarking on a journey designed to cultivate discipline, leadership, patriotism, and a commitment to service. Chief Petty Officer Michelle Adderley coordinated the installation Ceremony.
In attendance was the Hon. Leonardo Lightbourne, Member of Parliament for North Andros and Minister of State for Agriculture & Marine Resources with responsibility for BAMSI, who commended the cadets for taking this important step and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany membership in the Rangers Programme.
The ceremony also benefited from the support of the Parent, Instructors and Guardians Association (PIAG), led by President Mrs. Sharona Barr, the Vice President, and other members of the association, all of whom played an integral role in ensuring the success of the event.

THE BAHAMAS’ OAS AMBASSADOR HAS COURTESY CALL WITH COMMANDER DEFENCE FORCE
His Excellency Chet D. Neymour, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS), paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey at Defence Force Headquarters on Tuesday 16 June, 2026.
The courtesy call reinforced the longstanding relationship between The Bahamas' diplomatic and national security institutions. It provided an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, including regional security cooperation, maritime governance, hemispheric engagements, training and development opportunities coordinated through the OAS.
The OAS came into being in 1948 with the signing in Bogotá, Colombia, of the Charter of the OAS, which entered into force in December 1951. Today, the OAS constitutes 35 nations of the Americas and is the main political, juridical, and social governmental forum in the Hemisphere. In addition, it has granted permanent observer status to 70 countries, as well as to the European Union (EU). The Bahamas became a member of the OAS in March 1982.
The OAS promotes democracy, human rights, multidimensional security, and sustainable development. For The Bahamas, the organization serves as an important platform for advancing national interests, strengthening regional partnerships, addressing transnational threats and fostering collaboration on issues that impact the security and prosperity of the region.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Neymour and Commodore Moxey discussed emerging regional challenges and the importance of collaborative approaches to safeguarding national and regional interests. Discussions also highlighted the critical role of international partnerships in promoting security, stability, and sustainable development throughout the Americas.
The courtesy call underscored a shared commitment to strengthening partnerships and advancing initiatives that contribute to the security and prosperity of The Bahamas and the wider region. Captain Chapell Whyms OM, currently serves as Defence Attaché alongside His Excellency Ambassador Chet D. Neymour.
