Paro Dzongkhag Administration

Paro Dzongkhag is situated in the north-western part of the country. It is located at an altitude of 2,250m above the sea level.

It covers a total area of 1293 Sq. km and has a population of 35260. The temperature ranges from 26 to 14 degree Celsius in summer and 14 to minus 5 during winter. The Dzongkhag has National Highway links to both Phuentsholing and Thimphu. Within the Dzongkhag, there exists a road network comprising of 122 kms highway and 311.02 kms of farm road. Two years of dedicated hard work of the Livestock sector and Desuung of Paro was finally recognized and rewarded by the Government. Paro Dzongkhag was among the six western Dzongkhags who were recognized and awarded appreciation certificates for achievement of 100% sterilization and vaccination of free roaming dogs. The certificate was received by Mr.Thinley Dorji and Dr.Tenzin Wangchuk, Livestock Paro on behalf of Dasho Dzongdag from the then Hon'ble Prime Minister in the presence of Dignitaries and Guests during the formal NADPM-RCP project exit ceremony held in Thimphu recently.
From now onwards, Dzongkhags, Gewogs and every institution will be responsible for free roaming Dog population management in their respective jurisdiction. The Dzongkhags and Gewogs are to plan and allocate budget in their areas and manage the dog related issues. However Department of Livestock will render support with technical aspects.
