Phuentsholing Thromde conducted the onboarding meeting for the Project Steering Committee of the ๐๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ข๐บ๐ฐ๐ต๐ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ท๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ (๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฃ) on 25 May 2026. The Committee is chaired by the Honโble Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and was attended by representatives from the Department of Human Settlement, Department of Environment, Department of Macro-Fiscal and Development Finance, Department of Geology and Mines, and the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology as committee members.
The Climate Resilient Omchu River Basin Project is being implemented by Phuentsholing Thromde with financial support from the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Asian Development Bank, at an estimated cost of ๐จ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฑ๐ฑ ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ผ๐ป. The six-year project aims to strengthen flood mitigation measures and undertake riverfront development along the Omchu River, including upstream landslide mitigation works. The Project Steering Committee has been established to provide guidance and strategic direction to the Project Management Unit for the effective and efficient implementation of the project. The Project Management Unit is managed and administered by Phuentsholing Thromde.
The onboarding meeting was organized to familiarize the Project Steering Committee with the projectโs objectives, expected outcomes, and the roles and responsibilities of the committee members. The session also included a site visit to the project areas, enabling the committee members to better understand the existing ground conditions and project scope.

Phuentsholing Thromde today convened the 11th Session of the 3rd Local Government, marking both the final session and the conclusion of the current local governmentโs five-year term. The Tshogde members (Thromde Thuemis) and the Chairperson (Thrompoen) will officially complete their tenure on 6 June 2026.
During the session, the Thrompoen, in his capacity as Chair of the Tshogde, expressed sincere appreciation to the civil servants of the Thromde Administration, led by the Executive Secretary, for their unwavering cooperation and dedicated service. He also commended the Administration team for their courage, commitment, and tireless efforts in successfully implementing the Thromdeโs plans and development programs.
The Tshogde highlighted several key milestones achieved by the Thromde Administration over the past decade through various projects, initiatives, and activities that have significantly contributed to the overall development of Phuentsholing Thromde. The members noted that the remarkable progress witnessed in recent years reflects the strong potential for Phuentsholing Throm to undergo a complete transformation in the coming years, in line with the national vision of achieving a developed Bhutan within the next decade.
To further strengthen coordination and collaboration between the Local Government members and the Thromde Administration, quarterly meetings were introduced from the previous financial year. These meetings primarily serve to update and inform LG members on the physical and financial progress of annual planned activities, as well as the status of public service delivery.
The session mainly focused on reviewing the achievements of the current financial year, with particular emphasis on the third-quarter progress report.
The Tshogde session concluded with the Executive Secretary expressing gratitude to the Thrompoen and all the Thuemis for their continued support and guidance in facilitating the successful implementation of developmental activities by the Thromde Administration.
