GOMDAR, SAMDRUP JONGKHAR
In a milestone event for local environmental governance, the Barzor Fremi Community Forest Management Group (CFMG) was formally awarded its Community Forest (CF) certificate during a joyous ceremony held today. Organized by the Beat Office, which spearheaded the initiative, the event celebrated the community's transition into legal custodians of their natural resources.
The ceremony was graced by a distinguished panel of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Samdrup Jongkhar, including the local leader - the Gup, the Mangmi, and the Gewog Administrative Officer (GAO), all of whom gathered to witness the official handover. This achievement highlights the exceptional coordination between the Gewog administration, the Beat Office, the Divisional Forest Office of Samdrup Jongkhar, local leaders, and the community members themselves, proving that unified collaboration is the cornerstone of successful decentralization.
The awarding of this certificate represents a significant shift toward decentralized forest management, granting the Barzor Fremi CFMG the legal authority to manage and protect their designated forest area independently. By empowering the community, the Department of Forest aims to foster a sense of ownership that encourages sustainable harvesting and proactive conservation. This success is the direct result of dedicated collaboration between forestry officials and local residents, ensuring the forest remains a productive and healthy asset.
In light of this success, the Gewog administration extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Gomdar Beat Office and the Samdrup Jongkhar Divisional Forest Office for their unwavering support in making this event a success. Our gratitude also extends to all past and present officials and personnel whose contributions paved the way for this achievement.
Moving forward, the Barzor Fremi CFMG will be responsible for implementing scientific management plans that balance resource extraction with ecosystem preservation. This includes the legal right to harvest timber and non-wood forest products for community use, alongside the duty to guard against illegal encroachment and forest fires. The event concluded on a high note, with officials and community members alike reaffirming their commitment to a greener, more self-reliant future for the people of Gomdar.

Dasho NC and Deputy chairperson of Dzongkhag Tshogdu Connected with Gomdar Gewog ๐ง๐น
Today, Gomdar Gewog was abuzz with energy as Dasho NC (Member of the National Council) and the Thrizin Wom of the Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) spent the day on the ground, engaging with officials and residents in a series of highly interactive and productive sessions.
The day kicked off at the Gewog center with a traditional Marchang ceremony, setting a sacred tone for the day's proceedings. In a refreshing move to encourage civic awareness, Dasho hosted a lively Question & Answer session. The crowd was quick on their feet, with prizes awarded to those who were fastest to answer!
Alongside Dasho, the Thrizin Wom, actively participated in interactions, listening to local concerns and discussing the synergy between the National Council and the Dzongkhag's local government. This engaging format brought the community closer to the legislative process, making national and local issues feel personal and accessible.
Moving from the hall to the field, the visiting dignitaries toured several villages and piggery farms throughout the Gewog. They took the time to speak directly with farmers about:
โ
Feed logistics and sustainability
โ
Market connectivity for livestock
โ
Essential infrastructure like farm roads and irrigation
๐ A Message of Gratitude
The Gomdar Gewog Administration extends its heartfelt thanks to Dasho NC and the Thrizin Wom for their joint visit today.
