Setting the tone for the three-day PEMA Symposium, Dasho Dechen Wangmo, Head of PEMA Secretariat encapsulates Bhutan’s mental health journey until today.

Speaking about how the PEMA was born from the deep compassion of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and with profound understanding that mental health challenges are not overcome within the walls of hospitals alone, the institution rolled out initiatives that were unprecedented in Bhutan’s health chapters.

"Today, the PEMA’s journey is not just the journey of the institution alone, but that of Bhutan’s in enhancing people’s happiness and wellbeing," Dasho said.

The Fourth PEMA symposium banner is the digital artwork of the 12th Century Changangkha Lhakhang, perched over a serene landscape depicting Bhutan. Home to our protective deity Gyenen Domtsangpa, the sacred place holds within the God of Compassion, Chaktong Chentong, with its thousand arms and thousand eyes. It reflects the symposium’s aspiration of building a community where no one's pain goes unseen and no one remains unreached.
