This pet dog came to the National Veterinary Hospital with a unilateral (left eye) prolapse of nictating (3rd eyelid)commonly known cherry eye .This is a common surgical affection of eyes in canines irrespective of breed, age and s*x but mostly affects small breeds. Literature says that it’s a genetic but no one proved it’s heritable. Though the cause is debetable, the treatment depends upon the surgeon’s experience, knowledge and the technique he follows. The left eye was absolutely alright after the surgery but she was back to the hospital with the same problem with the right eye after few months. Although the 3rd eyelid produces 30-50% of the tear, we have successfully operated the right eye too as pictured below. Post-operative medication was advised for Relub eye drop. Let’s do it together as a “vet” for our innocent 4 legged friends The Eye Vet
