The origin of the department dates back to mid 80s. However, to invigorate the commission, it was reconstituted in 1995 as the Solzin Lhentshog with 15 members.

A website called Dzongkha Next is set to make writing in Dzongkha easier and more engaging. Similar to an auto-correction feature, it predicts Dzongkha words and syllables as users type.
