New Research from Bhutan on Microplastics in Drinking Water

Our latest study from Thimphu reveals the presence of microplastics across streams, rivers, groundwater, tap water, and even bottled water. While overall levels were moderate, some polymers identified carry higher potential hazards, highlighting the need for stronger catchment protection, waste management, and long-term monitoring of drinking water sources.

This is the first polymer-specific microplastics assessment in Bhutan, using advanced Py-GC/MS analysis to understand both pollution levels and potential human exposure.
