COMPANY PROFILE
Donkey Milk Industries
Donkey Milk Industries T/A Secret Kalahari was registered under the Botswana Companies Act in 2016. It is wholly owned by Johannes Petrus Visagie and Christinah Johanna Visagie.
Secret Kalahari is a pioneer in the donkey milk industry in Botswana and specializes in producing donkey milk cosmetics like donkey milk soap, lotions and shampoo bars, which contain up to 40% donkey milk. Their products, which have been registered on the EU market and Amazon in the USA, target a niche market. The most important ingredient in the products is donkey milk, which has very high cosmetic properties. Donkey milk is very rare as donkeys produce very little milk.
From as young an age as 8 years, Mr. Visagie was milking donkeys. Initially, the donkey milk was largely for home consumption until 2014. In that year, Mr. Visagie turned donkey milk production into a business and has since expanded the sales from 5 litres per day to 25 litres. It is estimated that the daily demand is 200 litres a day country-wide. Currently, the farm has 200 donkeys.
During the past four years, Donkey Milk Industries has transformed itself into a small-scale business. It has changed from merely selling fresh donkey milk to producing and selling donkey milk soap, lotions, ointments and nutritional supplements.
Having gained access to a lucrative market like Amazon, the company is gearing up to take full advantage of that niche market by scaling up its operations to produce enough products for Amazon platform and the European market.
Secret Kalahari has signed up with the USAID Trade Hub of Southern Africa, which in turn has contracted Albert Scott LLC, an e-commerce management company working with Amazon on an e-commerce platform. Through the agreement, Secret Kalahari ships products, including Kalahari Donkey Milk Soap (Premium), Kalahari Shampoo bar and Kalahari Donkey Milk Lotion, to Amazon’s warehouse in California, USA, and then the products are marketed and distributed in North America.
Locally, their products can be found at the Store at SSKIA, and other retail outlets countrywide. Reach out to them on: Tel: +267 74 569 774 and on Facebook at Kalahari Donkey Milk.
