The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was established in 1997, under section 65A of the constitution of Botswana.
IEC was established to conduct and supervise elections of elected members of National Assembly, Elected members of a Local Authority, conduct referendum and ensure that elections are conducted efficiently, properly, freely and fairly.

IEC TRAINS POLL STAFF IN TATI SIDING NORTH POLLING DISTRICT
The Independent Electoral Commission today training of poll staff in the Tati Siding North Polling District in preparation for the 20th June 2026 by-election in the polling district.
The training is attended by the Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officers, Presiding Officers, Polling Officers, Police Officers, Candidates, Election Agents, Polling Agents and Counting Agents.
