𝗗𝗪𝗦 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗

The Department of Water and Sanitation joined Bontleng Primary School in commemorating the Day of the African Child under the theme: “𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮.”

Speaking at the event, Chief Sanitation Engineer Ms Seone encouraged learners to play an active role in protecting water sources, keeping toilets clean for the next user, and practicing regular handwashing to help create a safe and healthy environment for all.

She also urged school management to ensure that sanitation facilities remain clean, accessible, and inclusive for all learners, with particular attention to the needs of girls during menstruation and the provide appropriate disposal facilities to safeguard learners’ health, dignity, and comfort.

The commemoration concluded with vibrant performances and a modelling showcase by learners, including a spirited Sarafina-inspired dance that celebrated the resilience, creativity, and aspirations of African children.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫.

𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕 at the Department of Water and Sanitation, 𝐌𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐤𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐞 has called all and sundry to look after water resources, in this case boreholes. This, he says, is essential to ensure reliable, clean access to groundwater while also preserving the long term health of aquifers.
