The myth of Russia's endless manpower is colliding with reality.

Over 1.3 million casualties. Monthly losses outpacing mobilisation for 6 consecutive months. A shrinking pool of working-age men already stretched between the military, law enforcement, and an economy under strain.

To fill the gap, Russia has recruited more than 27,000 foreign nationals from 130 countries, many reportedly coerced or deceived into serving on the front lines.

Foreign recruits may buy time. Not victory.

On this , the European Union calls for high ambition at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Mongolia to:

🌱 strengthen synergies between the 3 Rio Convention COPs: climate, biodiversity, desertification
🌱 agree on a solid budget to implement the decisions of the parties at the COP
🌱 strengthen of the implementation of the UNCCD
🌱 increase the involvement of civil society organisations and the private sector
🌱 increase gender balance

Because desertification, land degradation and droughts are global problems - and need a global response.

The launch also featured two organisations from Botswana that have been awarded grants to develop new heritage narrative working with artists and creatives from Southern Africa and Europe.
