Many thanks to all the key-players for a successful Youth Engagement Forum (Panel Discussion) held today under the theme *Floods and droughts are the two sides of the same crisis, wetlands can fix bothโ€™ (Mumba & Marsudi, 2025). Botswana has experienced both; Is the above statement true?*

Wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, fresh water availability, food security and many more.

Their degradation and loss is more rapid than that of other ecosystems. This being compromised by the threat brought by human activities with an estimation loss of 37% during the past 50 years and no sign of recovery.

The loss of wetlands threatens water and the vitality of all biological diversity living in them. It is therefore, imperative to bring the future leaders attention to the urgent need to protect, restore and invest in wetlands as a well as translating awareness into action.

Yippie๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ The day is finally here๐ŸŒThe DEP World Environment Day Commemoration 2025๐Ÿ™Œ
"The World Environment Day is not just a date on the calendar, it is a mirror. A mirror that reflects how far weโ€™ve come, but more importantly, how far we still need to go.

This year, we gather under the global theme: โ€œBeat Plastic Pollution.โ€ And while that phrase is short, the weight of its truth is immense," those were some of the key important messages from Col, Botsang Tshenyego from Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC).

Special thanks to our partners in no particular order Standard Chartered Botswana, Carerra Holdings, Caltex, Lakewood Academy, Clover Chemical Industries, re-waste, Gaborone City Council, Botswana National Olympic Committee, Botala Plastics and all Government Departments.
