Baitshephi Ba Jeso Gospel Choir in Partnership with Tebo ya Bokamoso Trust, in line with National Clean-up Campaign as declared by Botswana President has donate 103 Waste Bins to Selebi-Phikwe Town Council
In a commendable demonstration of community partnership and environmental stewardship, Baitshephi Ba Jeso Gospel Choir, in collaboration with Tebo ya Bokamoso Trust, today took part in a clean-up campain through litter picking covering Phase 1, Phase 2 and Newstance wards in Selebi-Phikwe, aimed at fostering a cleaner, healther and resilient communities Botswana, under the theme "Clean Community, Responsible Youth".
The partnershiop was also mantled to donated 103 waste bins to the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council.
The clean-up campaign together with the donation ceremony was graced by the Acting President and Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Hon. Moeti C. Mohwasa, who delivered the keynote address. He applauded the two organisations for their generosity and commitment to supporting environmental sustainability. He encouraged communities to actively participate in clean-up initiatives, noting that clean surroundings restore dignity to communities, improve public health, and make towns more attractive to investors.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Council and standing in for the Mayor, Honourable Timothy Sejankabo expressed sincere appreciation to Baitshephi Ba Jeso Gospel Choir and Tebo ya Bokamoso Trust for their generous contribution towards community development. He noted that the 103 waste bins will significantly strengthen the Council's waste management efforts and promote responsible waste disposal practices across Selebi-Phikwe.

BOSELE-TSEPAMA Regional Block Signs Landmark MoU to Boost Regional Investment
The BOSELE-TSEPAMA Regional Block, comprising Bobirwa District Council, Selebi Phikwe Town Council, Serowe District Council, Palapye District Council, and Mahalapye District Council, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening regional cooperation, promoting investment, and accelerating socio economic development.
In his welcome remarks, His Worship the Mayor, Hon Oageng Makgosa, described the partnership as a significant step towards unlocking investment opportunities and fostering sustainable development across the region. He also highlighted the importance of capacity building to ensure successful implementation of the agreement.
Providing an overview of the initiative, Town Clerk Mr Lawrence Mokotedi said the collaboration, supported by the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, will focus on value addition, industrialisation, revenue generation, and resource sharing to improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth.
Representatives of the participating councils pledged their commitment to the successful implementation of the MoU, while BOSELE-TSEPAMA Deputy Chairperson, Hon Outule Segolame, called for coordinated efforts to translate the agreement into tangible results that will drive sustainable economic growth and attract investment across the region.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding represents a shared commitment by the five local authorities to work collaboratively towards attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, promoting innovation, and improving the quality of life for communities across the BOSELE-TSEPAMA Regional Block. Through this partnership, the region is well positioned to harness its collective strengths and unlock new opportunities for inclusive and sustainable development.

SPTC and BBS Bank Sign Service Level Agreement for Social Safety Net Services
A significant milestone was achieved today as SPTC and BBS Bank signed a Service Level Agreement (SLA) that will enable social safety net beneficiaries to access their benefits through a VISA Prepaid Card, replacing the previously used Zebra Card system effective July 2026.
In his welcome remarks, the Mayor of Selebi Phikwe Hon Oageng Makgosa acknowledged the efforts made by SPTC in facilitating the agreement to improve service delivery for social welfare beneficiaries. He noted that the partnership will strengthen service delivery by ensuring that beneficiaries receive services in a safe, secure, dignified, and inclusive manner. He further highlighted that beneficiaries will now enjoy greater freedom of choice, allowing them to purchase goods and services from service providers of their preference.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Town Clerk Mr Lawrence B. Mokotedi expressed gratitude for the development, stating that social safety net beneficiaries will now have greater flexibility in accessing the services they need. He also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs (MLGTA) in advancing decentralization efforts, which has enabled the agreement between SPTC and BBS Bank possible. Moreover, he stated that, the Ministry due to its various Districts serving Batswana is best known as Batho Pele Ministry. Hence, adapting to modern changes and moving with the time, as such providing its services "Closer, Fast & Better" to the communities they serve.
The Head of Retail at BBS Bank, Ms Thelma O'Reilly, described the partnership as a privilege and a meaningful initiative that will allow beneficiaries to access services through the bank’s prepaid card platform. She emphasized that the collaboration with SPTC demonstrates the importance of inclusivity in service delivery and noted that the VISA Prepaid Card offers a simple, reliable, and convenient solution that empowers beneficiaries to use their funds at their own discretion.
The Selebi Phikwe Branch Manager, Ms Boitshepho Chikanda, explained that beneficiaries will be able to make purchases through point of sale terminals or withdraw cash using the card. She noted that users will only be able to spend funds available on the card, eliminating the risk of overdrafts. Furthermore, she highlighted that the card incorporates modern security features to protect users and can also serve as a savings tool, with no monthly maintenance fees.
In her closing remarks, Chairperson of the Community Development and Social Services Committee, Hon Thabologo Sethuba, expressed appreciation for the achievement and commended all stakeholders involved in making the initiative a reality. Hon Sethuba emphasized that intensive monitoring should be conducted to ensure that clients use it for its intended purpose and benefit.
The signing of the Service Level Agreement represents a major advancement in the delivery of social safety net services and reflects a shared commitment by SPTC and BBS Bank to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and dignity for beneficiaries across the community.

LED Strategy Development Capacity Building Workshop Concludes
The three-day Local Economic Development (LED) Strategy Development Capacity Building Workshop officially concluded today, marking the culmination of productive engagements aimed at shaping a sustainable and inclusive economic future for Selebi Phikwe.
Today's programme featured group discussions, providing participants with an opportunity to share ideas, reflect on key issues, and contribute recommendations towards the development of the LED Strategy.
In his closing remarks, LED Committee Chairperson, Moagisi Buru, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their active participation and valuable contributions throughout the workshop. He encouraged stakeholders to remain committed to the implementation of agreed initiatives, emphasizing the importance of moving beyond discussions to achieving tangible results.
He further urged participants to prioritize LED-related issues and continue working collaboratively towards the economic transformation and sustainable development of Selebi Phikwe.
