BPZ Validation Session
We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders who participated in yesterday’s Biodiversity Protection Zone (BPZ) Validation Session on the proposed areas for Milestone 6.
Milestone 6 will expand BPZs in the deep sea and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Through the completion of Milestone 6, Belize will also protect 30% of its total ocean space as BPZs.
In addition, Milestone 6 will support the finalization and submission of the Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan (BSOP), which will serve as a guiding framework for the sustainable use and management of Belize’s ocean space.
As highlighted by CZMAI CEO Ms. Chantalle Clarke-Samuels: “[BSOP] requires partnership in how we conserve, sustainably use, and manage these areas for the benefit of all Belizeans.”

CZMAI is pleased to officially announce the commencement of the Public Inspection Period for the Draft Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan (BSOP) running from May 25th to July 24th.
The Draft BSOP will serve as Belize’s legally enforceable, comprehensive national marine spatial planning framework that designates zones for biodiversity protection and permissible human uses and activities that may be lawfully carried out in Belize’s ocean space.
We encourage the public and all stakeholders to review the plan and submit written feedback via an online survey to ensure it reflects the realities of all ocean users and supports the sustainable use, development and conservation of Belize’s coastal and ocean resources.
