The National Women's Commission

On May 22nd, the National Women’s Commission attended the La Inmaculada R.C. School Expo in the Orange Walk District.

The Commission was pleased to share information about who we are, what we do, and why equality remains essential and important in today’s society.

We are grateful to La Inmaculada R.C. School for the opportunity to educate and engage with children from a young age, reinforcing the importance of respect, love, and equality for everyone - both male and female.

On May 14th and 15th, the National Women’s Commission facilitated a Gender Awareness & Unconscious Bias Training Workshop for heads of management from the Development Finance Corporation across Belize in Belmopan.

The workshop created an engaging and reflective space for discussion on gender equality, equity, unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, and equitable workplace practices. These topics reinforced the importance of intentional decision-making in building stronger, more inclusive departments.

Participants provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, sharing that the training raised a deeper level of self-awareness and consciousness within themselves, expanding their knowledge on gender-related issues, and reinforced the important distinction between S*x and Gender.

The session encouraged participants to reflect on how unconscious bias can influence workplace interactions, leadership opportunities, and service delivery.

Through continued capacity building initiatives like these, The National Women’s Commission remains committed to fostering inclusive, equitable, and gender-responsive workplaces throughout Belize.

The Blue Teddy Bear is more than just a symbol; it represents comfort, safety, and the innocence every child deserves. By using something so familiar and gentle, the campaign creates a powerful contrast that draws attention to a serious issue: child abuse.

The teddy bear helps start conversations that are often difficult to have, making the topic more approachable for families, communities, and even children themselves. It serves as a reminder that every child deserves protection, love, and a safe space to grow. 💙🧸

Children are still being placed in harm’s way, even when abuse is known.

Imagine a child being forced to face the very person you fear, even after the truth has come to light.

This is NOT protection, rather this is FAILURE.

We CANNOT normalize a system that ignores fear, silence victims and put our children at risk.

Protect our children. Demand accountability.

Silence protects abusers, speaking up protects our children.

The time to act is now.

The National Women’s Commission successfully hosted its Women’s Empowerment Forum and Educational Fair on Wednesday March 25th, 2026 under the theme “Balance the Scales.”

From spirituality and culture, to health throughout the life course and financial empowerment, the forum reinforced the importance of equipping women and girls with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive.

We extend our sincere thanks to our guest speakers, partners, and participants who contributed to this impactful event.
