On 25 June, we celebrate the 2026 Day of the Seafarer under the theme, "Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks."
Every day, seafarers play a crucial role in keeping global trade moving, ensuring that goods reach communities and economies around the world. Behind this essential work are long periods away from home, demanding conditions, and the challenges of navigating high-risk areas, including conflict zones.

The Belize Port Authority recently had seven officers participate in diving training aimed at building capacity, strengthening skills, and enhancing operational readiness. Of the seven officers, two completed a refresher course to reinforce and repeat key diving concepts, safety procedures, and practical skills, while the remaining five officers were introduced to diving for the first time, gaining foundational knowledge and hands-on experience.
This training forms part of the BPA ongoing commitment to equipping its officers with the knowledge and competencies necessary to support maritime operations, safety, and preparedness. By investing in both new and continued learning opportunities, the Authority continues to strengthen its human resource capacity within the maritime sector.
