PRESS RELEASE
Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Belize and the Belize Cancer Society Unveiled its 2020 Cancer Awareness Campaign Photo today, Thursday October 22nd, 2020 under the theme Cancer is only a chapter, not your whole story. Live life each day as you would want to be remembered.
Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow in collaboration with the Belize Cancer Society unveiled its 2020 Cancer Awareness Campaign Photo as part of activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year since 2014, Mrs. Simplis Barrow in her capacity as Special Envoy in partnership with the Belize Cancer Society organized an annual cancer awareness photo shoot with cancer survivors of all ages from across the country. These ladies give of their time and energy to empower and encourage other women to take charge of their health.
This photo shoot is a yearly reminder that self-breast examination and yearly medical screenings are essentially important. It is a reminder that Early Detection Saves Lives. This year’s photoshoot showcased six vibrant ladies from Belize City, San Pedro, Toledo and Orange Walk.
Remarks were given by Mrs. Laura Longsworth, Immediate Past President of the Belize Cancer Society and Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Belize. Testimonials were given by Ms. Lisa Woodeye Avila, Breast Cancer Survivor and Ms. Chelsea Munoz, Breast Cancer Survivor. Remarks from sponsors included Mr. Nigel Richards, Gaia River Lodge, Ms. Sandra Vallesteros, Dream Nails Hair Salon, Ms. Tanya Tanesha, Makeup by Tanya Tanesha, and Ms. Shelly Perera, PINK Boutique. Closing remarks were given by Nurse Dellone Pascasio, Co – Founder Dangriga Cancer Center.
For the campaign this year, the theme was Cancer is only a chapter, not your whole story. Live life each day as you would want to be remembered. Cancer is but only a chapter in the book of life and with the loving support of friends, family and the community, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Cancer and their families. The strength and courage displayed by these ladies are a symbol of hope and perseverance for all who are privileged to be in their presence. Cancer does not discriminate, it does not segregate, it holds no bias and it can affect us all. And so we must join together in supporting those affected by this disease.
Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow and the Belize Cancer Society would like to extend sincere gratitude to all sponsors and participants of this year’s 2020 photo unveiling: we could not do it without your committed support.
