Managed Access - Belize Fisheries Department

Sustainable Fisheries Initiative of the Belize Fisheries Department geared towards the implementation of a rights based management to fisheries in Belize.

The Managed Access program is a rights based management program that seeks to protect the rights of traditional fishers. The program has been piloted at Glover's Reef Marine Reserve and Port Honduras Marine Reserve. The program consists of licensing traditional fishers to access the sites and improves data collection and enforcement. It is expected that fishers will become better stewards of the sites and that the fishery will recover.
