On October 24 & 25, a specialized moderator’s training program to promote citizen dialogue on issues of national concern, took place in Belize City. This exercise is part of “Belize: Making citizens count” a program that calls on Belizeans living in the country and abroad, to jointly and individually make proposals to further institutional reforms that strengthen the independence of the Office of General Auditor and improve its tools to fight corruption.

The Belize: Making Citizens Count program is an initiative implemented by the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development, through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in partnership with the Supreme Audit Institution of Belize and the Latin American and Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS), within the scope of the Regional Project Strengthening External Financial Control to Effectively Prevent and Combat Against Corruption (Anticorruption OLACEFS).

Making Citizens Count-Belize gathers us as a community to learn about and influence decisions regarding citizen oversight of Government spending and Government accountability in Belize. Here, we can demand reforms that improve citizen control of Government resources and the quality of services it provides so the constitutional rights of all Belizeans is guaranteed.

This initiative has the support of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS) and the German Agency for International Cooperation - GIZ for the Office of the Auditor General of Belize and is part of the Strengthening citizen control in the fight against regional corruption project. The civil organization Acción Ciudadana Colombia -AC-Colombia provides technical support.
