Yesterday, May 27th, the Greening Belize Initiative marked an important milestone with the signing of Data Sharing Agreements📄 and a Memorandum of Understanding with ten partner organizations committed to restoration and sustainable land management in Belize. 🌱
The Greening🌳🌱 Belize Initiative aims to restore 130,000 hectares of degraded land across the country, including 50,000 hectares of forest landscapes and 80,000 hectares within agro landscapes.
The signing of these Data Sharing Agreements represents the first step toward standardized data collection and strengthened 🤝collaboration, supporting Belize in meeting its national and international restoration commitments.
A sincere thank you to Belize Audubon Society, Belize Wild Cats, Bulridge Ltd., Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative- CSFI for Conservation and Development , Julian Cho Society and Toledo Alcaldes Association- Leaders of Southern Belize Cayo Tour Guide Association (CTGA) The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant and Ya'axché Conservation Trust who participated in this first round of engagement and collaboration. Stakeholder engagement continues, with additional organizations expected to join the Initiative in the coming months.
Additionally, the Forest Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Asociación Balam ONG to promote collaboration, the exchange of experiences, and other activities of mutual benefit at the binational level. Asociación Balam ONG also signed an agreement with Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative- CSFI, further strengthening regional partnerships for conservation and restoration efforts.
Together, through collaboration, shared knowledge, and collective action, we are building a greener and more resilient Belize for future 🌱generations.

Though no longer serving within the Forest Department, Erwin’s impact on conservation, outreach, and the lives of the many young people he inspired will never be forgotten. His laughter, dedication, and love for community left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Belize’s wildlife needs time to recover. 🌿🦜🦌
A temporary 1-year moratorium is now in place for the hunting and capture of:
• Yellow-headed Amazon Parrots
• Brown Brocket Deer
• White-lipped Peccary
This added layer of protection helps address growing threats like illegal hunting, wildlife trafficking, habitat loss, and increasing commercial demand.
Protecting wildlife means protecting Belize’s forests, biodiversity, watersheds, livelihoods, and future generations.
Respect wildlife. Respect the law. Protect our future.
