Proud Moment in EMPTY PESTICIDE CONTAINER (EPC) MANAGEMENT!
Farmers are stepping up to the challenge of shared responsibility in the proper disposal of empty pesticide containers!
*
Under a collaboration agreement with the Resilient Rural Belize Programme, Producer Organizations were equipped with tools necessary for responsible pesticide life-cycle management, including these EPC mini-collection units.
*
Some months later we are now going back to farmers' fields to assess whether the units are being put to use, and we are beginning to see that indeed they are!!
*
Follow us to see what will become of these collected, triple rinsed and perforated empty pesticide containers!
*
Next Step: TRANSPORTATION to a centralized collection center for SHREDDING to reduce volume.
BIG thanks to our team of Inspectors/Trainers and the work they do under our National Training & Certification and Farmer Assistance Programmes.

IMPORTATION OF UNREGISTERED PESTICIDES and APPROPRIATE TRANSPORTATION
The public is hereby sensitized of the importance of obtaining the required permits prior to the importation of unregistered pesticides. This includes professional-use products used to control structural pests. Cargo transporters are strongly advised to ensure that clients are in possession of the required permits, and that transportation is secure and appropriate. A recent highway accident most likely caused by cargo overload resulted in the spill of a mixed cargo including heavy equipment and an undetermined quantity of two synthetic pyrethroid insecticide products. Thankfully, prompt action by Mr. with assistance from in the early hours of Thursday 2nd April led to the successful extraction of contaminated soil for appropriate disposal. This action effectively prevented contamination of watershed to the Belize River. Environmental protection is everybody's business!
