Thanks to the Castaway Belize team for helping lend their digger for a stint to break ground on a new crocodile enclosure this week. Our newest resident Bridgette is blind and in need of a forever home which will take a lot of time, effort and funds which we don't currently have.
If you are in a position to be able to help Bridgette's cause through a donation then we are externally grateful.

We spent some time foraging naturally for our resident animals yesterday! 🌿🐢

Incorporating native Belizean leaves, fruits, and vegetables into our animals' diets is an important part of their care here at ACES Wildlife Rescue. Although these animals can never be released back into the wild, that doesn't mean they should be deprived of the variety of foods they would naturally encounter in their native habitats.
Providing a diverse diet, along with enrichment activities, helps break up the day, encourages natural behaviours, and keeps our residents mentally and physically stimulated.

Here, Turbo, our resident turtle, is enjoying one of his favourite treats—a fresh coco-plum! 🥰

Sadly, Turbo cannot be released. He was illegally taken from the wild and kept as a pet in unsuitable conditions. As a result, he never learned the natural behaviours needed to survive as a wild furrowed wood turtle. While he may never return to the forest, we can still ensure he enjoys a life filled with enrichment, natural foods, and the highest standard of care.

On Sunday evening we were informed that an indivdual was directly feeding two crocodiles, which is illegal here in Belize, posing a $10,000 fine.

As we were already closeby we decided to pay a visit to the said individual.
After a informative conversation, the visitor was unaware they could not feed crocodiles, agreed to delete the footage and apologized for their mistake.

Raising awareness about coexisting with crocodiles is essential to ensure those that live and/or visit Ambergris Caye are well informed. If you are a property manager/owner, please get in touch and we can share digital leaflets on how to coexist with crocodiles.

If you need any signage for your property we can also provide at a discounted rate or a free printable version.

On 17 June, World Crocodile Day, the ACES Team will be running 31 km—almost the entire length of Ambergris Caye—to raise vital funds for ACES Wildlife Rescue.

We have just about reached 50% of our fundraising goal, and now we're calling on local bars and restaurants to help make this World Crocodile Day even more impactful.

Instead of torturing yourself by running the length of the island, why not sit back, relax, and enjoy a Croc-Tail or Croc-Beer, with proceeds supporting ACES Wildlife Rescue? 🍹🍺

We're excited that @ @ are already part of the Croc Team!

If you own or manage a bar or restaurant and would like to take part, please let us know. We'll send you a promotional poster for the day and share your participation on our social media channels. We'll also try to stop by during our run to take a photo outside your business with our Croc mascot as we make our way across the island!

Every dollar raised helps ACES continue its vital conservation work on Ambergris Caye. As the only wildlife rehabilitation centre serving the Northern Cayes, our resources are over stretched. Additional funding will allow us to:

• Rescue and rehabilitate more wildlife
• Support crocodile coexistence initiatives
• Deliver environmental education programmes
• Inspire the next generation of wildlife ambassadors

Together, we can make a real difference for the wildlife of Ambergris Caye. For more information and fundraising link in the comments.

Happy World Environment Day to all our followers!

With the current almost seemingly insurmountable threats facing the future of the environment of Ambergris Caye, its often hard to find the time in the day to pause and reflect on what an amazing place this is and also what is at stake. Take a breather here to see some of our colourful critters going about their lives away from the hum drum of humanity!

We mustn’t forget that we ultimately rely on the ecosystems around us to regulate the climate, provide water, food, medicines and that a thriving natural habitat supports local livelihoods and eco-tourism. The work of a wildlife charity such as ACES is pivotal to safeguarding our biodiversity, rehabilitating wildlife and both protecting and restoring our environment but this can’t be done on goodwill alone and we need more support.

If you are in a position to help us prepare for our next wildlife rescue, our next cleanup event, our next season and our very future here on the island then please consider joining our adoption family. A nominal donation each month could change the life of an animal and contribute to a legacy of hope. Supporters will receive regular updates on our work and even get to name one of our intakes! This week from our research cameras is more of the gorgeous Grey Fox which is the only fox species native to Belize and known in the local Yucatec Maya language as Ch'omak. If you are lucky enough to have them living nearby you may hear their calling at night which can be alarming as it resembles a harsh, screaming bark!
You may see the fox drag its bottom in ones of the clips which is a behaviour known as "scooting"—primarily because of irritation or itching in their rear end. This irritation can be caused by intestinal worms, impacted a**l glands or occasionally marking their territory in this way.

If you would like to see more research camera action then why not consider donating to our equipment fund here 😊

🚧 New volunteers opportunity 🐊

We have made a new WhatsApp Group to create a community of people who would like to help us here at ACES for more project and maintenance tasks.
We will put shout outs into the group for people to come assist with projects such as
-enclsoure creation and maintaince
-construction
-gardening and landscaping

Tasks that require more of a community effort that may take myself and Matt a couple of months to get completed ourselves!

If you would like to join the group please private message us your contact number and please share to anyone who may be interested ❤️🙏
