At Durham Youth Services, our bingo fundraising is an essential source of income that helps us maintain our three properties, cover utilities, and provide nutritious meals for youth staying at our emergency shelter.

💙🚶 Walking Together to End Homelessness 🚶‍♀️💙

In recognition of World Homeless Day, we’re proud to share that our Durham Youth Services team members participated in a walk to raise awareness about homelessness and the importance of safe, stable housing for everyone.

At DYS, we see the impact that housing insecurity can have on young people and understand how important it is to build a community where everyone has a place to call home. Every step we take toward raising awareness, showing compassion, and advocating for change matters.

For young people experiencing homelessness, the challenges can go far beyond not having a safe place to call home. Housing instability can impact mental health, education, employment, relationships, and overall well-being.

Today, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities whose lives have been forever impacted by these institutions.

At Durham Youth Services, we recognize the importance of listening, learning and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation. We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities and the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces where every young person feels valued, respected and supported.
