To our residents:
BC Wildfire and BC's forestry industry will be burning slash piles in the mountains as it gets colder, and smoke will be visible from town. Please know that we are aware of the burning taking place, and that it is not prohibited burning or a forest fire.

Don’t forget: open burning of yard waste is still prohibited in Spallumcheen until November 1st and is never permitted in Armstrong!

Open Burning season in the Township of Spallumcheen does not start until November 1st.

In the mean time, get yourself prepared by piling up your dry prunings, and familiarize yourself with the BC ventilation index and open burning regulations found in the fire prevention bylaws and at www.asfd.ca

As fall yard cleanup gets underway, please remember that open burning is not permitted Armstrong or Spallumcheen until November 1, 2026.

Waiting until the permitted burn season helps reduce fire risks and reduces the smoke in the air. We appreciate everyone's cooperation and commitment to fire prevention.

Earlier in the summer, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department held a fun evening of team-building activities. Getting to know each other and building camaraderie goes a long way to developing a strong team... and dumping water on each other builds a REALLY strong team A special thank you to Askew's Foods for supplying the ingredients for our barbeque beforehand.

🔥 CAMPFIRE BAN IN EFFECT JULY 10 🔥

Due to elevated wildfire risk and dry conditions, a Campfire Ban will take effect in the City of Armstrong and Township of Spallumcheen beginning 12:00 PM (Noon) on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Effective at noon on July 10, all campfires will be prohibited within both municipalities until further notice.

✅ Permitted appliances may continue to be used in accordance with provincial an municipal regulations and manufacturer specifications.

We ask all residents and visitors to do their part to help prevent wildfires and keep our communities safe.

Local firefighters hit the links this past weekend for team building and some fun in the community ahead of our busiest time of year.

These members were still on call and ready to respond to the community while holing out for the ASFD golf trophy!

Congratulations to the Luttmerdings and Aspinalls for taking home the trophy and going 2 under on the round!

🔥Open Burning Update 🔥
Open burning is now restricted, but campfires are still allowed—as long as you keep them safe and responsible.
Before lighting your fire, remember:
✅ For recreational, cooking, or ceremonial use only
✅ Keep it small (max. 0.5 m x 0.5 m)
✅ Burn clean, dry, untreated wood only
✅ Use a proper fire ring (non-combustible)
✅ Keep water nearby to put it out
✅ Stay at least 5 meters from buildings/property lines
✅ Fully extinguish before leaving

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department would like to remind residents that open air burning is not permitted between May 1st and October 31st. Campfires are allowed in both the City of Armstrong and the Township of Spallumcheen year round unless a campfire ban has been issued. For more information, you may refer to the bylaws tab at www.asfd.ca or contact the fire department.
